| | | How is copper so valuable? Do people just steal it then sell it for cash?
It's not where it goes, it's where it can lead you to. |

| | | When you turn copper in, they weigh how much you have, then pay you $ per pound. A couple of years ago it used to be around $3.50 a pound, which depending on what your turning in can add up fast! If the feeders (wires going from the high voltage pole into the house/building) are copper and depending on how long the wires are from the pole to the house/building it can add up real fast. I have been on jobs that we replaced the feeder cables and the scrap that we pulled out brought in $10,000!!!!

| | | I enjoy Red Brick's brown ale :\. Copper is popular to steal around here. Not too long ago, someone stole the A/C unit from the place next door to where I work. [last edit 12/4/2013 4:29 PM by Malthea - edited 1 times]

| | | tennessee just got a new law because of people like this, now if you want to turn in the copper from a AC unit you have to have a license from a company that works on AC units
Apparently that DID just happen. And I AM proud of it |

| | | A co-worker had his catalytic converter cut out from his exhaust on the company parking lot. I guess the platinum in the converter is worth $50-$100 as scrap.

| | | some idiot last year jumped a fence at an abandoned zink refining place over here thinking the wires up the poles were not live... well they were and now hes dead. Actually kind of pisses me off when I was moving I had a few perfectly good tube TV's (not even the super old ones they were flat screens) and posted them on craigslist as good working TV's and a few other appliances and not a half an hour later some asshole came by and cut the cords off of them and left the TV's.
