UC Research Division: Cincinnati, OH

This is my first post, so hopefully all goes right...

I was in visiting from Seattle and wanted to do a little bit of exploration. I stumbled upon the QCD blog about a building called the "Research Division" building http://queencitydi...arch-division.html and it seemed to be just what I was looking for.

Stashed away in a quiet neighborhood, QCD mentions that the building was originally owned and operated by Quantum Chemical, although in its current state it's mostly badged up as a research building for the University of Cincinnati. The building has been abandoned and stripped - it's a dark, leaky mess and hasn't been used for a long time.

The building is creepy, creaky, and overgrown. Plenty of times it reminded me of Resident Evil or a video game. A cabinet full of test tubes, and a musculoskeletal observation room. It's kinda creepy and pretty awesome.

Random old "computers/equipment" and other strange items like a very old arc light projector or Hammond organ are stashed away/very cool finds. We only had time to explore one of the buildings, but it was awesome and creepy. I think that someone had been living there (or may still be), as a dog crate and plenty of dog food cans could be found inside. Surely this wasn't left behind in the move.

The location is extremely wet and damp, and the basement areas have a foot or so of water in some areas so I didn't get to explore some places. For some reason there are a bunch of cars in the lot around the building, so don't get too thrown off thinking people are working inside. I think it's used as a junk lot.

Fun explore. Looking forward to posting more.

First off, welcome to UER! Good first post--the only things you did wrong was use the pop-up photos and post coordinates in a public board. Do less of both and you'll find a niche here soon enough.

This is a great location; I've been there once myself. Sadly, you missed the best building!

Thanks! I was wondering about posting the location - I didn't see that explicitly called out, so I wasn't sure. Good to know about that and the popups. Will avoid them on future posts

Awesome pics! (Not gonna lie, I was immediately reminded of "The Catcher in the Rye" by that last pic.)

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

There were all kinds of goofy little finds in there. That projector was very cool, the organ was my favorite, but there were lots of other finds: a huge drill thing that looked like you would use it to unearth the Thing in antarctica, old machines, "computers" all kinds of stuff. Lots of fun, for sure!

I stumbled across this location a few weeks ago and was curious about it. A little research on the county auditor's web site showed the place is owned not by UC but by a couple individuals in N. Ky. who bought it some time ago. I don't know that UC ever owned it according to what I can find but it is possible they leased the location at one time?

my brother and i visited this place about a month ago. had a little scare. after exploring one building for ~45 minutes we started to head to another building and i notice a german shepherd roaming around. luckily he didn't see us, so we headed back into the building we had been exploring and went to the 2nd floor to look out the windows and check things out. what we found was a tow truck and its driver seemed to be sending the dog into each building before he entered. my fear was that dog was going to smell us and have us for lunch. apparently we weren't in the building they were using. not sure what they were doing inside that building, but they left after ~30 minutes. needless to say we didn't bother going into any other buildings. we got the heck out of there. now after seeing you pics i wish we would have stuck around an explored some more.

it's definitely on my list to go back.
