This is the first exploration I am posting.

...taken from SJrail.com

The Burlington & Mount Holly Railroad and Transportation Company

The Burlington & Mount Holly Railroad and Transportation Company, was incorporated in 1836. The railroad ran from Burlington NJ to Mount Holly NJ. 7.2 track miles.

July 4, 1863 Burlington & Mount Holly Railroad & Transportation Company renamed Burlington County Railroad Company.

In 1895, the Pennsylvania Railroad used the Burlington & Mount Holly tracks to experiment with 500 volt DC trolley wire; trolley pole electric operation, with two motor passenger cars built by Jackson and Sharp Company at Wilmington, Del. and was the first electrified PRR branch in New Jersey.

This service was discontinued on Oct. 29, 1901, after the electrical powerhouse in Mount Holly burned.

On April. 1902 PRR orders demolition of Mount Holly power house and ends experiment of electric trolley operation between Burlington and Mount Holly.

The Burlington & Mount Holly line was abandoned by the PRR in 1927.

Yea, actually. Next to one of the pillars I didn't include in this gallery, I found 6 or 7 piles of human excrement. Complete with toilet paper wads.

Someone must REALLY like that spot for some reason.

I would go with bow hunters waiting for deer, rather than bums. The used tissue left behind is a sign. Bums wouldn't bother to wipe!

Maybe. But then again, as I have learned, hunters are usually the nicest of people. They are there to have fun and enjoy themselves. I'd sooner expect a handshake than hostility if I encountered a hunter.

Now, if I happen across a still back there, I will demand some liquid proceeds to not go to the authorities with their location. Just saying.

Lol. If it was Burlington, it might be the homeless. Mt. Holly's not too bad though, and being there's a lot of trails around there, it's probably someone's jog and dump spot. Is that Jamaican restaurant still open in the station near there?

The station you are referring to is actually the station pictured in the postcard in my first image.

I don't believe it is open anymore, even though it looks kept up. There is one of the original railcars posted out behind the station. It is badly deteriorated. I'll go back and get a few shots of it on Monday. I should be able to climb inside, provided the flooring isn't completely rotted.

Also, across the street from the station, CONRAIL owns and still infrequently operates tracks. About a quarter of a mile down them, is a somewhat formidable hobo jungle.

I'm picking up what your puttin' down. That car looked pretty rough in 2007, and I can imagine it got a lot worse.

Oh yea, it's much worse. The door is gone, as well as the rest of the glass.

Do you have any pics of the railroad from 07?

Damn, when the restaurant was open, the lady that worked there watched out for stuff in the area. Now that she's gone, I'm sure some shit is bound to happen.

Here's a link to the couple of shots I took around that area.

Went back today to get shots of the car, and some of it's interior.

There were A LOT of people around, and some of them had stopped what they were doing to watch me. I took these pretty fast, and they didn't turn out very well. I did manage to find time on the way back to set up the tripod and get a few shots of Bambi and Her mother, though.

also, my very first chair.

Nice. Don't let people staring get to you. Learn some history about the line, and try and memorize it before you go. If someone gives you shit about how you shouldn't be trespassing, throw some RR knowledge their way and folks usually lighten up immediately. It's worked for me almost every single time.

It wasn't the trespassing bit I was concerned about.

It was the whole being mugged and tossed into the Rancocas Creek thing that concerned me. :0

Haha, gotcha. A mugging or even a little role reversal with "let me in your caboose" down by the creek just doesn't sound like a good time.

oh wow I used to live in the area and i never knew about this! Very interesting and yes burlington is a little sketch in some parts!

The blind lead the blind into bottomless pits,
Still we smile and deny that we're cursed.
But of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst.
