Posting to Location Specific or General Photography Forum

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to this forum and am enjoying meeting some nice and knowledgable people. I'm pretty sure I have a grasp of how things work on this forum except for one question.

As a photographer, who isn't really wordy in terms of describing my outings or photographs, do I post to the photography forum or to my respective location based forum (Ontario in this case).

I can see it being useful to people in the location based forum as they can see the state of the abandonment at the time the photos were shot. But I take very few pictures and look at it from an artistic point of view over a documentary sort of way.

I presume posting to both would be frowned upon as well? I went to a location with another UER member on Saturday, will probably end up with 3-5 photos, and I'm not sure where to post them.

Normally the Photography forum is for photo sets, hopefully with some artistic merit, while more exploring-laden (and info about how it all went) tends to go in regional forums.

Cross-posting the same thing is generally frowned upon, but if you don't think the photos themselves are terribly interesting, but would appeal to people who know the area or location, then I'd definitely recommend posting to the regional forum.

All the threads in both Photo and regional forums can be seen by anyone, but you can make a thread "private" in regional forums, meaning only registered users can see it. All threads in the Photo forum are public, and even someone browsing UER without an account can see them.

Hope that helps.

Welcome aboard!

I am sure you are going to get a few different answers to your question, and not sure there is really an right or wrong answer. Me personally I post all my stuff in my region area, aside from maybe photo of the day or self portrait threads and what not. My reasoning is that I am simple a amateur photographer, who is amazed by some of the photos I see in the photography section, so I prefer to post mine in the region area at this time.

That said, I have never seen anyone bashed (too badly) for posting low quality photos in the photography section, as most people on here are good people and love to just see the different locations and different point of views.

Thanks everyone! Judging from your responses I think the Photography sub-forum is more for me. It's not like I'm visiting new and previously unexplored places; there are probably a number of threads in the regional forums on the locations I have been visiting.
