Traveling to NYC, transit question

I'm looking to travel to central NYC. Last time I was hosted by a kind and loving UER member, but on this trip I don't plan to be bothering anybody for tours or handouts. Where can I park my car for about a week near a transit line that will take me into NYC?

Basically I'm looking to not pay a park-n-ride parking fee if I can help it. How aggressively do off-island Wal-Marts tow?

+1

It would have to be on a side street tho because there are meters on Market and Ferry. Newark is about 20 minutes give or take from NY Penn Station.

I used to live in Clifton, NJ. I left my car on the street for weeks at a time without incident. There was a direct bus to Manhattan that ran on Main Ave in Clifton.

Most residential areas in Brooklyn have street parking. When I drive I always drop my car in Crown Heights and take the subway from there. You'll have no problems as long as you pay attention to what days are street cleaning and can move your car for them, but that may be too much of an inconvenience if you are there for a whole week.

I work in clifton, NJ. make sure you read signs about where you can park. There are sections where they will ticket you overnight.

If you disobey NYC alt side parking rules you will receive a ticket within minutes. I believe the fine is around 65$ these days. If they tow your car for some reason (rare, but it happens) that's about 200 to get it back. It happened to an idiot I used to know.

There's a few streets around town with no parking regulations, where you can park for months on end. And no, there is absolutely no fucking way in hell I'm going to tell anyone on the internet where those are.

Besides, you don't want to drive into NYC. 6.5 dollar bridge and tunnel tolls, insane drivers like me who'll run you off the road, cyclists darting through traffic, pedestrians who will practically climb over your car, traffic, traffic and did I say traffic? Gas is on average 40 cents more here than in NJ too. Per gallon.

Park somewhere in NJ and take the train in.
