| | | | Beautiful Building. Sad Realization. < on 11/22/2011 10:15 PM >
| | | My friends and I have always seen this building from the street. Being from NYC abandoned buildings have always been around and often have the most amazing messages on the sides of the roof. But always hard to get to or nothing inside. This one was a bit tricky to get to being that we had to jump off the side of a small bridge and squeeze through some barbed wire. Just to arrive to a beautiful relic that was completely sealed. (i need to learn how to climb buildings) Wasn't able to get many pictures being that you're out in the open and surrounded by active lots of trucks and con ed vans. Anyone ever been here? or have any info on it? -g

| | | If it's abandoned and in NYC, yes, chances are extremely high (like 99.5% high) that someone or another has been inside. This one is no exception. It was sealed up a few years back - before that it was full of punk squatters (friendly). I've got some video of this somewhere. I thought I had more online in terms of photos and a writeup but I must have phoned it in by only posting photos of the interior graffiti: http://ltvsquad.co...ID/16/Sec/Gallery/ - it's completely trashed in there. I'd say it's been trashed like that for a good 20 years now. It was originally a power plant, it looks like it was a catering hall before it was abandoned. You can probably still get inside. I went last year. It's tricky though. Not 100% sure it worth it unless you like graffiti, since that's basically the only thing in there to shoot.

| | | thank you so much dude. I appreciate all you input on all my posts! yeah i thought it looked like a power plant but wasn't totally sure. When we went there was some sort of construction going on on the back side. so we didn't check if there was a way in through back there but you know how it is... can't just take walk by it... have to get in and see for yourself. Thank you again man! Cool thing about this place is that even tho its sealed. it isn't the easiest to get to so it adds to the danger/fun of exploring even tho we weren't able to get in. Still an amazing and beautiful building! -g

| | | Wow, What a stunning building. Its a shame that it apparently has been destroyed inside. I would definitely jump of the side of a bridge and squeeze through some barbed wire to just see it from the outside. Anyways great pictures and thanks for posting.

| | | The exteriors are pretty impressive, I'd still wanna get in just for closure on that. For some reason [at least to me] even underwhelming exteriors feel like full respects for something that intense on the outside. The door on the last shot, is it welded or visible or anything?

it was so worth it... and kinda cool just because it was a pretty busy little bridge and it was 4 of us so i had to front like i was taking pics and one by one we got over and then ran into the barbed wire. Good gloves helped bend them into a decent size entrance. just wish i could have set up my tripod and got some really good pictures. There's a Con Ed parking lot next door and a bunch of random workers walking around so it was like crawling around the whole time. I honestly am considering climbing up into one of those windows early morning and wait for the sun to rise get my shots and slide down. lol

we didn't really take too much time being to the activity around the area we didn't have any tools but did trying kicking it whenever we heard construction just not to be heard so much. and nothing. Im sure the right heads together can figure this out... All i know if i'll truly regret the day it goes down and i didn't go in even if for some amazing street art. if anyone ever wants to try this out im always down to meet new heads at a bar shoot the sh*t and go exploring the next morning hungover... lol

| | | It's worth noting that this place is slated to go away at some point. it's owned by some huge real estate company that wants to make it into million dollar apartments. Which is really stupid if you ask me, given it's proximity to some extremely toxic areas. Only an idiot would live there. One of my exterior shots of this place is in a book called 'NY Calling'. There used to be a lot more trash out back, including an awesome old caddy. All the doors were wide open. If & when you get in, be careful of needles. There's a lot of them in there.
