Detroit Church

Almost a year ago we found out about this church...and since we've made several trips to it. Not in the safest of locations, but so worth the trip. I'd recommend not staying more than an hour though...it's right smack dab in the middle of a busy area. So far we've never run into anybody inside while we were there, but it's easy to tell that there have been others there...especially considering there is a ladder set up to get inside. The whole place has been trashed but there's surprisingly a LOT of stuff still in there. In photo #4 with all the books and paper on the ground, there's actually a ton of photos of naked women lying around. Can't really see it, but laying on the chair is a magazine rip out of a woman lying spread eagle...it was not something I was expecting to find. I'm assuming it was also a school house at one time, since there's an indoor basketball court and textbooks everywhere. Also, pianos. Lots and lots of pianos.

We went about a year ago, so I don't know how much is changed. If you walk around the building though, it's really obvious how to get in.

Great location!

I feel like Detroit could serve as a pilgrimage destination for urban explorers across the country. We can walk there like in the Camino del Santiago, without the Catholic overtones.

It was recently used as a set for a movie, after which they secured it pretty well.

Heard they cleared the lower pews to make way for a boxing ring for the film. Thankfully I got in before all that!

Awesome place, looks like fun. Do you know what movie was filmed here?

No, we didn't lol.

But to answer your question about the movie, apparently this movie was what was filmed ---> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1712170/

I had no idea about it until we tried to find more information on it, and ended up on this site --> http://detroiturbe...s/curvy/index.html

I'm happy it was used for something, but still kinda bummed cause it was fantastic for photos. They do say it was secured again, but who knows how 'secure' that actually is.

Shit, the front door was wide open back in late 2009. All we had to do was pay the hobo at the front to get out of our way and we had free reign of the place.

And all that could have been....http://www.downinthishole.com
