When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

NOOOOOO!!!! I love that place! one of my top favorite locations in the DFW area. I was just there last Friday too but didn't see any demo workers though or signs of demolition...I didn't think they could demolish it cuz it was a historical landmark, or at least was at one point. Well damn

I was thinking the same thing. It even has the state marker in front of it. I guess anything is possible in the name of
progress.

Anyone want to try and make one last pass at it? Or is security too tight?

20 grand a month on security??? LOLZ. im always up for a trip there. sounds like some of the buildings on the east side by the railroad tracks have already been removed (thats where people lived anyway...) but the main building and the fake prison they used for that AWFUL fox show are still there for now...

This is pretty sad. I think we should plan a big group expedition to go splore it one more time before they kill it.

I've been to Swift next door. Is that place considered separate? Anyone know if they plan to tear it down as well? I've never been to Armor, mostly because I've never been with anyone who had been there before and with all the security (guys driving around in golf carts) I figured it was actually still in use. I never saw any security at all over at Swift but again, I've only ever been there once. I really want to go before they demo so count me in but I've got to drive pretty far to get there.

The article on nbcdfw.com says they were alongside one another.

Ah, ok - after re-reading the article I see the part I missed.

"While the Armour plant is set to be torn down, the Swift plant buildings' future is still up in the air. That property is owned by another company and only two of those buildings may be salvaged according to Wiederhold. Part of that property, he said, is part of the Trinity River project."

So I've never been to Armour. Gotta get in there.

When I saw the title of the article, my first reaction was, "Yeah, yeah...but what about Swift?".

Armour is a whole different place. I cased it several months ago for access points; there are (or were) NO exploitable breaches in the fence to Armour. There is (or was) on-site security that drives the property perimeter in a golf cart every 30 minutes or so. My understanding is that it was being used as some sort of refinery.

Swift is a gem of local Urbex. While it's far from being the most interesting place to explore, it's very large, has a decidedly post-apocalyptic feel, and is the go-to spot for me when photographers come into town and wanna go shooting, since even on non-moonlit nights, most of the property is shootable from all the light coming in from Exchange Street.

I hope they never tear that place down.

So, as it happens, my job took me to Meachum Airport today, and I suddenly found myself with a little 'unexpected' free time while away from the boss, so I took a pass at Swift. Sorry for the cell phone pics.

So, from the looks of it, Armour is half coming down, half being restored. The building closest to Packers St. is definitely getting restored. When I drove by there were workers re-tarring the roof and all the plywood was down and workers were inside, it looks like cleaning out debris and running electricals. Kind of a lot of work for a building about to come down? Sadly, there is a LOT of demolition equipment on site. I'd say they're planning on razing a lot of it to make way for Billy Bob's 2.0... Pity. Oh and I think I remember someone saying they're spending $20k a month on security? I can totally see it. It's insane. There are security golf carts everywhere, several Chevy trucks, and 5 or 6 security booths strewn about.

HOWEVER- Good news, it LOOKS like Swift is safe, for now. That's just speculation based on a stop by. There's no equipment at Swift, no men in Swift, no security on Swift, and POE's are still a dime a dozen.
