Nah, that's not true. Not sure who told you that. Used to be true, but it's not anymore.

OK, here is a picture, as someone was asking for one.

I would call it, be prepared.

Answer:
The spare tire is under the car, so this area is for tools. It isn't a cooler or so.
You can see the floor tile that goes on it in the lower right corner of the original picture. The straps from the camera bag are hanging over it.

It holds quite a fee things.
So the vehicle looks cleaner for the people that have only standard tools with them.

The floor jack and the tools to change a tire are under the rear seat, so this area carries what you need extra.

In my case it has a towing rope, a chain, some D-rings, a short towing strap, jumper cables, extra work gloves, a warning triangle, some extra area lighting, light sticks, a lug wrench. I think that's it.
I had a small fire extinguisher there as well but I got a bigger one, so the small one is at home.

ahh- i see. i guess the vans storage was just that, storage. but it was hard plastic and had a drain, so we put beer and ice in it any ways.

also- good call on the fire bottle. i used to keep one in my truck, but i had to use it one time and it never got replaced.

That sounds amazingly like the space behind the seats of my truck. There is a plastic thing back there made for "holding stuff".

It currently has:
1 rescue bag (200ft rope, (4) 1"x20' webbing straps, 4 steel carabiners, 2 aluminum carabiners, 2 prussik cords, 1 figure8 descender, 1 pair leather gloves, 1 disposable respirator, 1 harness)

(6) 1-hr road flares, mesh goggles, standard goggles, yellow lens over-glasses, 4"x60' ratchet strap, 4"x50'towstrap, cable puller, fully stocked EMT medical kit, trauma blanket, tire repair kit, fire extinguisher, sack full of 100' hanks of 5mm and 7mm prussik cording, bottles of water, 4-size large lug wrench, tool kit (will fit every fastener on my truck, as well as has electrical tape, small multimeter, vice-grips, etc), roll of "emergency" yellow/black ribbontape, hammer, sledgehammer, crowbar, Bersa .380 semi-auto, roll of duct tape, spare headlights/tail-lights/fog-lights for my truck, fuel filter, air filter, hose clamps, funnel, jumper cables, bottle jack, scissor jack, binoculars, mini lantern, glow sticks, 12v multisocket, pressure guages, um...

I know I'm forgetting something.

I should take a picture.

And than there is the stuff in the back you can see stacked high.
It includes the fire extinguisher, below it is a little first aid kit, a reflective vest (in the orange pouch), an AED (red box, not mine), trauma kit (above red box), some spare BDU's and extra items (green box), two towels a blanked and a green bag with extra items, a backpack that holds my search light (green backpack), four orange cones (I got the cheap ones and tapes reflective tape on the top)

Unseen:
Two pop up cones, amber light bar, search light, dual light flasher in the back window (you see the cable), 3 battery flares, a little compressor, two more reflective vests, and I might have forgotten something else as well.

That's great, but do you have the one thing you really need to survive, water?

Your security measures were inadequate.
How unfortunate for you.

Lets see I am in Lubbock, Texas, and I am not sure where we have water in the first place.

Why wouldn't there be one in the chamber? It's pretty useless otherwise.

That whole "get out and rack the slide before you shoot" thing is for movies only. Otherwise it wastes valuable time telling someone you're about to shoot them when you should be actually shooting them.
