Abandoned high school #2

I ended up poking around yet another old high school, in another small southeast Washington town.

This visit took place on a Saturday morning with a strong steady wind, on which Katy Perry's "Firework" was carried through rattling boarded-up windows from a volleyball match at the nearby (current) high school. A volleyball-dad wandered over and I found him standing outside the entrance hole. He must have been bored out of his mind (or maybe just needing a break from the music) ...

The handsome exterior ...

Any ideas why the 3rd floor classrooms would have this big ass door that apparently locks from the outside?

Here is another view of the door from inside:

Nice! I went out here over the summer but there were a bunch of wasps swarming the entrance.

By the looks of all those pulleys it appears to be some kinda early automatic fire door. Why it locks from the outside is any ones guess. Maybe its designed to trap students inside so they don't play hookey lol.

Ah, I was wondering about the pulleys. That makes a lot more sense!

The funny thing is that some high schools honestly lock kids inside these days, haha. Maybe not with big ominous doors like that. Poor kids. Makes me thankful that my high school was so lax.

i used to drive by that place going to the casino. We pulled up several times but the darn police would show up in minutes. The school next to it is really bad on calling the police on this place.

You notice it has a brand new roof on it? I noticed your from richland. I lived in canyon lakes for seven years (Kennewick) got tired of the rain and winters.

Have you explored the mill as you come in to toppenish? Someone said they tore it down? I think it was a beat mill or something?

Money makes happiness if not your not shopping at the right store.

Yeah, odd. There were no other signs of renovation or activity.

Cool; I've been living in Richland for only a year now.

Didn't know about this location. Cross referencing an old pic from the UER forums with the current satellite shows much of it being torn down. Next time I'm passing nearby I'll definitely scope it out and let you know. Thanks for the tip!
