You go through the trouble of wearing a harness to help your excuse, but you dont tie off to help your chances of survival... brilliant... unless you have nothing to live for and are on the border of committing suicide anyway, this is preposterous... whatever....... dont know why I even posted, but I would hate to see a young american man die because of some ill-conceived notion of being a bad ass... I'll go on the record of saying unless you are just fibbing for internet glory, your not a bad ass, but a careless fool.

Once you get some more climbing experience you'll learn that tying in can be more dangerous in certain situations, and unnecessary in others (caged ladders? Stairs? A question of personal comfort and ability.)
And on the topic of the "careless fool" himself: I've been climbing with Vadder. He attentively surveys his routes before doing them, and stays within his limits while freeclimbing. I watched him walk away from his dream climb because he was only 95% sure he could do it.
