Is the poop deck really what I think it is?
| | Prince of Wales Bridge < on 10/12/2011 2:24 PM >
| | | The Prince of Wales Bridge is a rail bridge across the Ottawa River joining Ottawa, Ontario to Gatineau, Quebec. It was built in 1880 and named for Albert Edward, Prince of Wales. At that time, it was one of the few crossings of the Ottawa River. The Prince of Wales Bridge served well into the 20th century, but as rail transport diminished and more efficient routes became more common, the line was abandoned. The City of Ottawa purchased the CPR line, including the Prince of Wales Bridge, during the early 2000s for the O-Train project, however, the bridge has remained unused and the track east of the Bayview Station to the bridge is overgrown. I was recently in town and remembered that I hadn't actually tackled this bridge yet. With the old Carp Co-Op demolished, my friend and I decided that Prince of Wales was our destination, and we set off. Unfortunately like any other bridge, there are only so many shots you can get of the bridge itself, but fortunately enough there was plenty of graffiti. Here's a link to the whole set, and here are some samples:

| | | Nice set... I have a fondness for bridges I'm trying to picture where this is exactly, having mostly grown up on the banks of the Ottawa River.

| | | Thanks! It's north of the Bayview O-Train station. Slightly to the west of the war museum. It's a pretty well-known bridge, there were a lot of regular folks out for hikes along it when we went. [last edit 10/20/2011 3:29 PM by skootles - edited 1 times]

| | | Off of parkway? More going towards Hull? If so I know exactly where that is now.

Yeah, the bridge in this photo is actually the parkway. The Prince of Wales bridge itself goes over the bike/jogging path.

Its on the other side of the parkway from the City Centre building and crosses over the river beside the Lemieux Island water treatment plant.

| | | Great bridge, used to jump off it as kids back when the trains still ran. I'm not sure if its still there but if you head further down the tracks into Quebec there is a small bridge the tracks go under that is cut off on both sides. We used to drink there a lot back in the day.
