In response to the old lady, she looked to be in her forties or fifties. And yes, we did have a lot of trouble getting in. Almost everything is boarded up with nails sticking to the outside. The few places that are not boarded up have unbroken glass and we did not want to make the place worse. It's already in terrible shape as it is. We think she might be a caretaker living in there. Since the room she was in was literally the only room in the entire hotel that we found that wasn't trashed. Also she was sleeping face up in a nice bed (it was a well furnished room) and her hair was in an up do. I wasn't able to look for more than a second since I couldn't really tell if she was awake when I saw her. As soon as we saw the lady we sped walked out of the area and did not end up waking her.

Also, we went back on September 30th and explored the basement much better. I will upload more information later today probably.

to tag it and poop on the floor and sacrifice a goat in the basement.

might smash a few windows and impregnate a few females in the lobby.

all in a days work.

I went by there back in March but didn't get to get in. They had wires covering some doors, I guess to make it seem like it was being monitored or something, who knows. But they were just hanging there. We didn't really chance it either because of all that cop talk.

But I so want/need to get in there. Need to find a way to get back up there. I know I'd be in there for hours just going picture crazy!

Thanks for posting, good to know that it's still possible to get in. Hopefully it'll remain that way for awhile.

In fact, I've never been inside in daylight.

On our way back down after sunrise, I came across the christmas decorations you set up for that one picture. Those pictures are really cool the way you lit up those rooms at night.

the military hospital and base up the street from here is a fun spot too. the empty buildings RIGHT next to the active jail are funny because the prisoners just sit there and look at you being free and shooting photographs and..oh yeah - trespassing. ha. youre breaking the law but they are the ones in jail. its a weirdo little town that mineral wells. crazy water!

I'm not much of a photographer, but I took these on my cell phone after sunrise happened (none of the ones I took in the dark showed anything). In picture 3, you can see our car parked in the neighboring church's visitor parking lot (one of the best places we think you can park that is close by.) also in picture 6, you can see my flashlight taped to a 720p video camera which I took on the first trip. That flashlight was terrible and you could hardly see anything in the video. On the second trip, I brought a LED LENSER T7 which is 200 lumens, has a focusing lens which moves forward and back, and runs off 4 AAA batteries. I have a good video of me, advancedx2, and my friend walking to and getting inside the hotel. We explored the basement very thoroughly and found 2 generators, or at least 2 very large engines of sorts and a control room next to it. The video goes all the way until after we get to the top when the camera ran out of batteries.

Having been in the Baker several times legally and with a building owner's rep as a guide/escort I can tell you that this place can be extremely dangerous. There are utility shafts here that run from the upper floors all the say to the basement, there are wooden floors that are decayed and soft and easy to fall through, there are balcony rails that are unstable and could give way very easily and in the tower at the top, there are no rails at all. Be very careful there. It's an awesome place to explore with a ton of photo ops. The only prob with this as your first infil is that everything else will fall short of this on thrill factor. The other thing to remember here is that, as mentioned earlier, the police station is pretty much across the street and the hotel can be seen from there. Many people going in at night have been busted because the police dispatcher sees a light moving in the windows. I know the old lady that used to manage this place is dead now, does anyone have any info on who may have taken her place?

My daughter and I were here yesterday.

The local sheriff sat in his truck and watched us the entire time.
Local guy I talked to said October is not the best month to try and tour, especially in the next few weeks- local law enforcement beefs up the security, since the place is "haunted" and everyone wants to get in around haloween to see the ghosts.

I just want to say that the building is still beautiful.

We also made out way to the old hospital. We will be going back after the holiday, so if anyone else wants to tag along......
