| | | Here's something completely different. A selection of aerial photos of the remains of several villages first demolished, then flooded out of existence when the St. Lawrence Seaway was created in 1958. http://www.sunkenv...ca/photoindex.html If you're not familiar with the backstory, this area is just up the Saint Lawrence River from Cornwall, Ontario. In the late 1950s, 6,500 farmers and residents of a half dozen villages and hamlets were forced to leave their homes, and 28,000 acres of farmland went underwater to accommodate inland ocean shipping on the Saint Lawrence and a reservoir for the Moses-Saunders hydro-electric power dam. A recent zebra mussel infestation of the river has rendered what remains more visible from the air. Much more info can be found at Jeri Danyleyko's Lost Villages web site. If you're totally lacking for stuff to browse, you can also check my DB entry for what's left of the Cornwall Canal.
It's great to be alive! |

| | | You're right. You don't see that every day. Thanks for sharing.
