| | Abandoned 1920's elementary school < on 9/6/2011 4:54 AM >
| | | I haven't been able to dig up any significant info on this location yet. It's in decent shape, still sturdy, but it's fading fast... holes in the roof are letting in water and in those locations it's already rotted straight through all three stories. Didn't get an outside shot cause it was too overgrown.

I think the school system was merged with another county and their newer building. I know it was used up through the mid 60's. The town is so small though, it's hard to find any information online. I might try and go by their town hall (it's actually the building right next to the school), and see if I can dig up any info.

Agreed! The middle school I went to, which used to be a high school, had metalwork like that on the auditorium chairs.

here's another picture of the detail that was on the side of the chair. Something that I've always loved about old buildings is the way they were created to have a sense of respect in and of themselves. They were built with a type of grace. I rarely if ever see buildings with that sort of passion in them now.

| | | I feel like it's not that they've lost grace, so much as they've become more utilitarian. Which is good and bad. Those chairs are beautiful though.

| | | Wow, this place MUST be old. It's not often (ever?) you see fused neutrals after the 40's. I can't imagine reaching my fingers in there to open those tiny little switches. ZAP.

Indeed! Even in the most industrial of places, they always had some sort of classy flair in the design, be it handrails, ceilings, tilework or the like. [last edit 9/7/2011 2:01 AM by Lambda - edited 1 times]
