| | | Posted by hairmetal1990 I used to spend hours on google earth looking for signs of abandonement.

Unless google earth now has an X-ray vision feature, you won't see underground structures like this.

No, but I'm quite aware of it. I know someone who actually worked there before they closed the place down maybe 10+ years ago. I've heard that they had a test range that should be avoided because there are undetonated shells still in the ground there. That's why it's fenced off. I'd think any remaining buildings would be safe to explore though. Is it worth a visit? BTW... I used to live in Freeport, IL which isn't too far from Beloit, as you probably know. medoug.

I have a couple abandoned farmsteads that I want to get posted here, but I've just got to find the time. One was the home of my great uncles before one died and the other moved to a care facility, and also now died. It is a log cabin with no running water. He lived there until about 15 years ago when he was about 85. Really neat place!

| | | The depot is subject to opinion. parts of it are being turned into an industrial park. Most of the old buildings are still there, some are in use, and some are sitting vacant, locked up tight. i enjoyed the few times i visited it. Didn't get to explore any buildings, but i did drive around the grounds and see how alot of it has decayed. and yeah i know where freeport is lol, one of my exes lived in pecatonica.
