Metal Treatment Plant? Morristown:

My UrbEx friends and I found this place and have explored most of it. The places we haven't been through are inaccessible (underwater or has tight security). We don't have very much information regarding the plant or what it was used for. If any of you have any opinions, they are very welcome. It is located outside of Morristown Tn. if anyone would like to meet up and join me and my friends for a trip to it just pm me. We enjoy meeting others interested in UrbEx.

It looks very similar to a plant I explored that made sheet metal. I don't know for sure though.

A cat wondering around there is probably very dead by now.

This place actually turned out to be an "Enka" plant. They were a fiber production company. (Yarn, string ect..) I find this wierd considering the abundance of coal and various chemical agents on premises. But I guess they had a use for them.

That was a brilliant observation. I wouldn't have caught that haha. Do you happen to know what the structure's purpose was?

I think they are cooling towers. My location is a jet engine testing facility, so that seemed to make sense.

Yes, those are cooling towers. They do the exact same thing as the huge concrete hyperbolic cooling towers at nuclear power stations and some other huge plants, but they are cheaper to build and more expensive to run.

This place used to be a fabrics/polyester plant. It's a cool place, but be careful; a good chunk of this plant is still active with security, and most of it still has power. It's very easy to accidentally walk from the abandoned areas into the active areas without knowing it until it's too late. Also be aware of the really bad flooring in some parts of the power plant which is half demolished and not entirely structurally sound, and also of some REALLY bad air in some parts of the building...

It wasn't a metal treatment plant, but if you saw metalwork equipment, this may be related to the active recycling plant that occupies part of the active sections of the property.

Have fun!

I'm just curious, but in that first building there are a few questionable signs and machinery that recommend looking away from the welder (Whatever it's called) and such. What would a fabric/polyester plant have use for it?
Also, there's a warehouse a lot further down, which i've only explored once personally, that has concrete bags, and a ton of bricks, as well as a few types of chemicals used in plastic.
Are you sure this is the place you're talking about? I don't actually know much on the subject, obviously.

Yeah, definitely the same place:

The polyester manufacturing process is a complex chemical process that involves a LOT of tanks, pipes, valves, high pressures, toxic chemicals, explosive chemicals, etc. It also requires a lot of electricity; enough that it's most economical for them to build a large on-site coal power station. With all of that pipework, in both the power station and the chemical plant, welding gear would be needed for maintenance.

I'll talk to them. Just a sec.

They said "No."

I've been to this place, and while totally sweet, it's a deathtrap. Whoever owns it would be a complete moron to let anybody in, purely for liability reasons. If you got hurt, they'd be open to a huge lawsuit.

Well said. You know, We've found a, what looked like, human vertebrate on the roof on a pass through there. Kind of disheartening. But I think we'll stop frequenting it as much as we have been. (I still want to take a look through the flooded floor though... I've got this whole plan for a small toy boat with a camera on it. )

Yea, we will keep looking and once we get the rest of the area checked out we will upload more pictures.
