I think what he means is that older private messages get deleted after a while.

I don't have the server resources to maintain an infinite store of your personal correspondance. Messages will get deleted after 2-3 months time, so please make sure to back up anything of importance.

Maybe it would be a good idea to note that somewhere so people know this, and instead of doing it by time prehapes by mb/number of messages?
