There's an outfall on the river near the UT campus I've been meaning to check out every time I'm in the area...I always just forget about it. Oops.

Someone wanna go check it out for me?

Jordi and I are probably headed out at the end of this week. We can take you for a short draining trip and a couple of buildings. We might have a time issue, but we'll show you what we can.

We're in the downtown area of Knoxville.
PM if insterested.
I recommend Mr. Blue and belleZ, too. They know Knoxville better than we do.

Wow, what great response from everyone! I'm going to need to ask for another day off of work for this...I wish.
I PMed Chris-kicker and Olpheliaism a few days ago, but maybe this is the opportunity to organize a bigger group explore?
Anyway, I know I'll be up there this coming Sunday and Monday. I need ten more jumps for my skydiving A license, and I'm hoping to be at the dropzone long enough to get 6-8 jumps, so I'll see if I can get an idea of what their schedule looks like so I know when my best times to explore are.

Have any of you in Knoxville been to Lakeshore?

http://www.alexbee...shore-exploration/

I drove by SEVERAL years ago on my way back to Memphis from Kingsport. I didn't have any back up, so I merely viewed it from the exterior.

At one time an independent horror movie was going to be filmed here, but that idea got scrapped.

The active one? Impossible. Nothing there to see although you can walk the grounds. All of the buildings are in use.

What about the abandoned building that's in the link I posted? That might not technically be considered Lakeshore, but it's on the grounds.

I think Mik may have been over there, but not 100% sure. I've driven by it a few times, but its always either on my way to work or on our way to a friends house. From what I have seen from the road its part of a park, so not sure how easy or hard it would be.
Between racing, vinyl jobs, and going to see the boys family, I have been very lame this year. The closest I've come to explore was drive by the College in Morristown... Hopefully once the weather cools down I may have a chance to do more.

Then it has become abandoned and deteriorated that much in two years which was the last time I checked down there.

And the college in Morristown is no go. Last time I was there, the police were there within 5 minutes. The only way would be to maybe park somewhere far and walk. The neighbors watch it like hawks since the fire a year or so back.

The officer even went so far as to tell us that if any photos showed up on the internet, they would prosecute. LOL

Yeah it was last summer when we went, before the fire . We parked down near the main part of town and walked up. We didnt have any problems with cops or anything, but there was someone else there... we kept finding wet foot prints and hearing footsteps but never saw a person. It was creepy. I went back by there during the winter after one of the big snows, we pulled over and I got a shot of the building after the fire. But I pretty much just walked up the main path and turned around

There are 6 or 7 empty buildings. There are only 2 buildings in serious use. I posted a thread (search Pale Blue Recreation on the Mid Atlantic thread)about a month ago. Easy place. No security. It's super crowded with people so know one questions strangers on the grounds.

Morristown is always busy with explorers. Just don't park close. We had no trouble and it was easy as well. If you go in the summer, no one can see you from the road/houses because of the kudzu.

We went into the same building that they did. There are other buildings, but I don't have photos posted.

actually, in regards to lakeshore, they are slowly shutting down all-together (I used to work at another state psych hospital)... so most of the buildings other than the 2-3 in the middle are not being used. It is no longer a long-term facility, and they have drastically cut the number of short term beds (I think its around 75).

Also, I was up at Morristown college 2 weeks (-ish?) ago, and though I wasn't there long, had no issues with, nor did I see, anyone at all... they had nothing in the way of security that I saw. no locks, ropes fences, nada. and the only sign I even saw posted was a road construction-type sign that said "no thru traffic" at the entrance... which, seeing as there's no where to go "thru" to... well, I'll let you follow my logic there.

True story. I used to live about a quarter mile away from there on Northshore. There are gates that can be shut but the only time they shut them is if someone escapes. They don't close off the facility at night, however there is a single security guard on duty. That being said the park still is not closed and people regularly walk the track at night. The last time I was there was when we had the decent snow last in Jan of 2010. I went sledding at like 3am.

I live a block from Lake Shore. I have been all over the property and never been in that building! I would love to check it out.

I go through Knox about once or twice a week, is there anything on 40 towards Asheville or 75 towards KY that is worth stopping in real quick and giving a once over? I can only stop on the way up, as I am always toting a trailer on the way back.
