There's no way I am going on a urbex trip without a tripod, my camera and a selection of lenses. Everything else is not that important

I'll admit, when I first started, my 'bare minimum' list read like a lot of these lists I see.

For me:
Closed Toed Shoes
Flashlight
(Camera, if I happen to have one on me).

Celer at Audax

Whistles? Cute...

Therrin holds up a cell phone in one hand, and a 5 watt radio in the other. Use as needed.

Bare minimum gear: Shoes. /thread

Your cell phone or 5 watt radio ain't gonna work in a steel reinforced bunker. (of which there are several near me) Hell, you can't even get cell service at my house and I'm less than 30 miles from a naval base.

And 5 watts might get you a crab boat but coast guard station sector Seattle couldn't pick that up from my island. It takes the 25 watts from my onboard VHF to do that.

Where'd my oh there it is go?...damn.

Not only do I carry at least 4 whistles when I explore, I insist that anyone that goes with me, also carry whistles. Glow sticks too. Know what else is cool? Jingle bells! Makes me feel like it's UER Christmas when I go exploring.

And why would you tape loose metal? I was kidding about the whistles, in case you still couldn't read the sarcasm. Something tells me that you actually tape your zipper. You are super l33t.

Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door.
"It's ok Officer, I watch a lot of cop shows on tv, so i am practically one of you guys." - sadly, that didn't work.

Pray tell why you're bashing 5watt radeos, when you're original great idea was using WHISTLES??? Might as well carry a damn handheld canister fog horn.
Anywhere you need 25 watts anyway, your whistle won't do shit. And you never mentioned using license level radio gear before, you said whistles dude.

"Hey everyone who can hear us, we're in here, blowin our whistles!" Me-thinks that in a steel/concrete reinforced underground bunker, yer not gonna hear crap from a whistle from very far away.

Ya'll go out urbexing like you're storming trenches in Iraq or something. The thread says "BARE MINIMUM GEAR" it doesn't say "what do you think is the ideal complete loadout for a Urbex/tactical recon/covert paramilitary op". Damn.

Ya'll try to run or hop a fence with all that crap dangling off you and pockets stuffed full and there's gonna be whistles and condoms and paracord and emergency meal replacement bars and flares and signalling mirrors layin all over the place.

HEY, don't say the kids shouldn't bring condoms. They're gonna need em so they don't catch the herp from the rabid gang of methhead rapist thugs hiding in that abandoned gas station.

This is about what I would go with as bare minimums... only thing I would include is a camera b/c there's always something I wish I had a camera to shoot when I don't bring it AND if you do get caught, having a camera is physical proof that you aren't up to no good

I'm not bashing 5 watt radio equipment. I'm just sayin it's use is extremely limited.

When we explore we often split up and whistles help us find eachother. I don't explore alone.

My EDC disappears quite nicely under a jacket. Knife, Gerber, Mag, whistle, gloves, smokes and a lighter. That is my bear minimum gear for stepping out my front door. And I think I mentioned that earlier in this thread.

Sorry if you felt singled out cuz you don't leave your house without a cache of "just in case items" and your handy rape whistle.

I was actually talking to the greater majority of the posts on this thread in that paragraph. If it made you feel guilty though, I can't help that. =P

Noone was talking about long distance covert or coastal communication in the first place, I just think running around with whistles stuck in every nook and cranny is a bit silly, especially if they garner such frequent use but you didn't mention a radio in the first place.

"its use is limited"??? Seriously? My guess is folks on UER use 5watt and lower (locally available, non-license band) radios a helluva lot more than they use whistles. Hell, we use radios on almost every trip.
Use is limited if you prefer making noise, instead of talking to someone, yes.

Were you raped by a whistle as a child or something? I EDC one because I've found many uses for it. You don't have to, but I won't leave the house without one. What is your obsession with picking on my whistle?

I've got 16 and half acres of farmland and timber. I use Motorola radios every day. We use em for everything from farmwork to taking the kids to the fair. I don't EDC one because I think it's use would be minimal outside the farm.

This is how you use it:

I find that a pimp ass RAINSTICK will get you out of just about any bind and the ladies love it. Why just today I was out exploring a building when this fine looking young woman walked by and caught a glimpse of my pimp ass RAINSTICK. It's got mirrors on it for signaling airplanes and looking dank. She sees that pimp ass RAINSTICK and was all like, "is that a RAINSTICK?" and I replied in the affirmatory. Next thing you know she's back at my place all worn out from hours of satisfaction.

Thanks RAINSTICK! Wouldn't leave home with out you!

This is the sound my RAINSTICK makes:

Some say the sound is reminiscent of rain, I say that's the cloud gods trapped in that pimp ass RAINSTICK. Thor, or some shit.

Btw, that's me in the vid, before I added all those signaling mirrors to my stick. It is, in fact, the world's largest RAINSTICK, but more importantly it's the world's pimpest.

One time I was all lost at in a steal bunker in the middle of nowhere when the roof collapsed. Thank god I had my RAINSTICK! I heaved it aloft through tons of debris over my head In order to flip it. Miles away some rednecks were all plowing thier fields, you know, doing farm work or some shit when they heard my powerful ass RAINSTICK. Now these particular rednecks knew this wasn't the session for rain, so they started searching around. Sure enough they found me in that steal bunker with all that shit on top of me. That RAINSTICK kept on playing for like 8 hours until they found me and I got out safe.

RAINSTICK saved my life, I'll never forget it!

Edit:
But enough about rainsticks, all you need is some sturdy shoes, a flash light and pants to go exploring. It's damn near the cheapest thing there is to do! And don't leave home with you wallet and ID!

Also, I didn't read that we weren't supposed to be sarcastic in the rookie forum. Rainsticks are pretty awesome though.
