I think we've come to a bit of a stalemate here, and everyone is just arguing and calling eachother names. Folks, go out and explore something. Your ethics are of course yours, but please be considerate of the sites you visit and the things you do. The reputation you can so easily tarnish will hurt many people.

This has degraded to the point that I'm going to lock it. If someone has a serious reason to unlock it, please present it to a moderator via PM.
Heartless had a huge post half typed that he says is a change from the name-calling and flaming. I'm unlocking it again and I'll re-evaluate in a while.

Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years.

My Opinion

Since the thread which preceded this message was locked, and I think that what I have to say is important, I decided to simply start a new one. This is not to continue or to start a flame war, but simply to point out and discuss our obligations to each other as explorers and as human beings. Here goes:

I would like BPM to be banned from UER. While he did not break any specific forum rules, what he did in this situation was uncalled for. Being in the presence of someone who calls you a friend but "won't hesitate" to make sure you get in legal trouble for something he can't even be certain that you did is unnerving.

BPM has never met Mike Dijital, and his personal life is none of BPM's or anyone else's business. BPM has skimmed threads where people have admitted to far worse crimes, and did nothing; in fact in my opinion, he reported Mike Dijital because he doesn't like him. Just like a cop to act on personal agendas rather than reality or due process.

There was no discussion when Av started this thread. Immediately his guilt was assumed and immediately BPM started stating that he had Mike Dijital's home address and personal information. The question is, will this happen in the future? If I break a window (not saying that I will), is BPM going to report me? I am secure in my ethics, not just in UE but in life. But being around people like BPM with a superiority complex and a vendetta against everyone who isn't perfect in his eyes makes me uncomfortable nonetheless. Jester openly discusses his ethics, but Jester (as far as I know) has never called the cops on someone who's admitted to committing some kind of miniscule crime.

Whether or not Mike Dijital is guilty is not the issue here. It's over, it's none of anyone's business, no harm, no foul.

Posted by BPM in a different thread:

I have stated my UE ethics and I stand by them. Also, being a former police officer (although I was in the military at the time), if I caught anyone committing a crime other than trespassing on a UE site, I would feel obligated to phone it in.

This is not only because it may screw the site up for me in the future, but also because at heart I am still a cop. Numerous members of my family are officers or were, none of them (myself included) would hestitate to put someone in restraints and wait for the police to arrive to cart your dumb ass away.

There is a difference between UE'ing and committing a crime. And before anyone starts in with illegal dentention/imprisonment because I am no longer a cop, believe me, I WILL WIN! You will wear MY bracelets to your new home. Bring out all the google searches you want about citizens arrest, but I will win and you will be behind bars. Citizen's Arrest can be a tricky subject for those not in the know, but I am. In California and many other states, I CAN USE deadly force to apprehend you for a felony committed in my presence. This includes following you to your home and busting down your door. I do carry a Styer GB-80 in my car and the few times I have been stopped, it has never presented a problem because I am a former officer of the law and licensed to carry in numerous counties.

And if it is me that catches you, you WILL NOT like the way it is done. Because I WILL embarass the hell out of you and it will be something for the news. I will hold you at gunpoint and make it all a felony stop. I will try my damndest to see that you are prosecuted to the FULLEST extent of the law.

This goes to the extent of making sure there are additional charges for whatever the hell I and the arresting officer can come with, not limited to possession of weapons, burglary tools, child porn, and lewd and livisious acts.

Don't be stupid and commit acts of senseless and random vandalism. It is not worth the trouble that you will eventually get into.

I don't play the vandalism, theft, B&E game. If you feel you have to commit one of those in my area and I catch you, you have been warned...

BPM, I understand that your intentions are good. I understand your anger at someone's actions which could possibly be harmful to our community and our hobby. But jumping the gun like that and reveling in the fact that Mike Dijital could be charged with a felony, that will RUIN YOUR LIFE, is absurd.

If you read my previous post in this thread where I mentioned my brother, understand this: I dislike him. I think he's an asshole. In fact, last time I was home, I got in a fist fight with him in in front of four police officers and about twenty-five of his freinds; MacGuyver might remember this. In spite of all he has done to my life, my family, and my property, I have never once gotten the police involved in the situation. He's done a pretty damn good job of doing it on his own.

When police get involved, things get murky. Don't take offense to that statement because you used to be one, just know this: the last time the police were brought into the mix regarding my brother, they conducted in illegal search and siezure of his vehicle, on my property, without a warrant and without permission. I objected and was almost arrested for obstructing justice. Why did I object if I think he deserves everything he gets? Because police and courts all too often use their power to cause unnecessary damage to a person'e life. What if Mike Dijital had gotten a felony charge, as you were certain that he would? Would that make you feel good?

So he sold some crap on ebay. Big deal. It shouldn't cause him to be unable to land a job, get a loan, or rent an apartment later in his life; and you shouldn't go out of your way to see to it that it happens. Like I said before, people's personal lives are no one elses business; and being on the other side of the country from him and having never met him before in your life, you should not take it upon yourself to attempt to rectify the situation as you see fit.

Everyone here just needs to chill out and remember that THIS IS AN INTERNET FORUM, not a place where we are to be judged and tried by people we've never met. We are ALL criminals in the eyes of the law, whether we believe that tresspassing is a crime or not. If anything, we should be looking out for one another, and if someone comes along who has a thing for vandalizing and tagging, they should be let known what we think of it. If their opinions and actions fail to change, they should be shunned. But no one here should ever report another member to the police. Unless they commit a real crime, like murder, of course.

Show's over, let's just all get back to our lives and put this whole incident behind us. If we learned something from it, it wasn't all that bad.
