Whats wrong with "Search"?

I'm not exactly sure why, but when I search for "TTC" I get "Found 0 results. Displaying 1 to 20:". Just wondering why TTC is not recognized?

The software this forum is built with can only search for strings of four or more characters. This is unchangable, unfortunately. It was brouhgt up a while back when someone wondered why "UEM" didn't return any results.

It's a limitation of MySQL, if I recall correctly.

Here is the relevant thread started by UEM-Tux http://www.uer.ca/forum_showthread.asp?fid=1&threadid=7753&currpage=1&pp#post0post0 in which Av explains it all.

I think that this is a relevant issue. I think the old slow search should be re-instated as an option, when someone searches for a three letter word. There are a lot of them! This is limiting.

the slow search would take upwards of 100 seconds, and during that time, EVERYONE on the board would be locked out.

example: you start a search. for the next 100 seconds, NOBODY can load any pages on the site. this was unacceptable.

i will try to write my own, better search algorythm in the near future

there's a really simple way around it (apologies if this was covered 'a while back'). for any string of 3 or less characters, just add an asterisk at the end of your string. so searching for "ttc" or "uem" won't work, but "ttc*" or "uem*" will.

Now all that's left is for Av to make the adding of the asterisk to the query automatic when there are three letter words... ;)

Of course, just typing the asterisk is fine with me, actually.

But who needs to search for anything related to UEM anyways ? ;)

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

I'd say about three times as many people as need to search for threads about the Wraiths... Mr. Microsoft Frontpage webpage design.

I suppose you're right Tux, since UEM is such an obscure little band of ragamuffins...

and I can't believe you stooped so low as to mock my lack of web design skills... that hurt man... straight to the heart...

You guys have one somewhere ? Neat. Maybe I'll have to do a search for UEM so I can take a look...

edit: of course, you're probably just posing, so you can get a hit to your site...
