Swede Holla

I was doing some scouting today and found that some previously mentioned demolition is ongoing. The buildings across the street seem to be pretty quiet, I'm going to have to explore these before they're gone. I'm pretty sure somebody else is thinking the same thing, I'd rather meet up before hand than run into someone. Anyone?

You mean Hamm's? Swede Hollow itself was torched 50+ years ago, lol. Beware that the building directly on the West side of the trench is a police station these days.

This thread has current(ish) discussion of the demo at Hamm's: http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=90349

Fucking depressing. I haven't been there in like six months, but it's still one of the best places. When those buildings come down, it's going to feel strange driving down that road.

I read somewhere that the buildings on the south side of the road are not being demolished. Yet.

You can find all the proposed demolition plans in the Finance and Commerce publication (it's all available online with a business subscription). Don't get too discouraged though, most of the buildings are NOT being demolished, but most likely redeveloped. The only ones on the chopping block are Fermentation (as you can now see), Power Plant #1 is soon to begin (so get in there soon), although it's horribly damaged. There are a couple other smaller out buildings slated to be demolished. All in all the important buildings are there to stay and redevelopment is excruciatingly expensive, so there will be many months if not years of exploration.

Between the city trying to "re-imagine" or whatever the fuck they call it, and the historically listed sections having a "mysterious accident", Hamm's doesn't have a lot going for it...

And you don't really have to worry about the cop shop next door. At worst, people have been hassled in the area for being "too white", but you can literally burn down part of Hamm's and the cops won't notice.

I like turtles.

I always imagined swimming in beer in the open pools on the top floor of the fermentation building. My dreams shall never come true.

I was down in that area yesterday and noticed that the holes in the fence had been freshly patched and the brush trimmed back from the fence all the way around. There was a guy inside with a company van, presumably buttoning up the rest of the holes in the buildings. Point being, the guy was running a saw and making a hell of a racket and nobody was coming to check it out. I saw three other explorers coming as I was going, talked to them for a minute then took off. I don't recall seeing any sign on the fence, I wonder if this is just a routine maintenance or if it's a sign of something bigger.

I think they clean/ reseal it at least once a year. I seriously doubt they got all the holes in the fence, or that that fence will stay closed very long. There's A LOT of different people who go there.

The holes were getting pretty damned obvious, and the fresh external graffiti too blatant, for them to ignore much longer...

Is that a website for arsonists or firefighters? Seriously, prophetic comic strips.

The comic strip about the fire was in reference to this:

http://www.firehou...-brewery-minnesota

Basically, there was a plan to demolish the place, which was temporarily blocked by the oldest section being listed on the national historic register. Then the old part "mysteriously" burned down, magically opening the way to mafia-based legitimate development. The development plan eventually fell through and seems to have devolved into random semi-sanctioned scrapping.

And the other Hamm's comic is in reference to this: http://www.stpaul....ndex.aspx?NID=4057

I got the connection on the one, the rebuild st paul part went over my head. Thanks for bringing me up to speed on that. I'm considering having a pizza party down there, Was thinking barbecue ribs but the smoke might draw unwanted partygoers.
