| | | Well? We don't really have any good power plants in my neighbourhood, so maybe I don't know. Are all the best ones stripped by scrappers? Your sigh doesn't explain the logic behind enabling scrapping to protect the best locations. Scrappers aren't protecting our locations, IMO.

Many are largely intact because there are active substations next to them, and some are under active surveillance. Keeping illegal scrappers out helps to preserves structures and keeps them safe for others to see and use.
Your security measures were inadequate. How unfortunate for you. |

This is probably the best way to go in my opinion. They're probably going to be just as nervous as you are, thinking that there's a chance you could be some type of authoritative figure. If you act chill and approach them with as much respect as you'd want to be approached with I would imagine it would go fine.

Scrappers get power plants sealed as do dumb asses that get caught. Any person in those plants is a liability to the owner. Scrappers leave graphic evidence of their visit that are hard to ignore. At demo time their pilfering make demos more expensive because all the valuable metals have been stolen. I've gotten to revisit, with permission or real time advise, the sites where I help tagged scrappers for that courtesy. Knowing what the owners and the police are looking for is a valuable asset, scrappers are not.

I would go with your statement. From all people, they are the ones that should be there the least. Even when it got closed because of them, you could asked to visit it to take pictures. There are quite some people out there, that allow you to do so, if you allow them to use a couple of your pictures.

| | | I've ran into scrappers multiple times. So far they've all been relatively pleasant. I was at hudepohl brewery with one like 5 trips before he finally got the nerve to ask us "hey you kids the ones that have been here every week?" We said yeah, and exchanged pleasantries and left. I also met a scrapper who was throwing ovens out of a third story window at an apartment complex into his truck. He was also a relatively nice guy. Asked us what we were doing, and showed us a POE. Ran into 3 huge guys with hacksaws at Winona hospital while lost. Once again, seemed nice. They showed us the exit. Really the biggest risk with scrappers I'd say is their sometimes noisy antics may get you both caught, but really as a whole they pose no immediate risk.
