It's all about the adventure
| | Armstrong Tire Company (Iowa) < on 5/24/2011 6:29 AM >
| | | Back in my home town and i though i might do a little UE. Found this diddy and couldn't resist. I assume most of the central iowa locals have done it. If not my pictures are filled with clues that should easily allow anyone to triangulate it's location. What i read about the place is that is was formerly Armstrong Tire Company, which was bought by Titan Tire Company in the 90's and then immediately shut down (antitust?). seems hard to believe they did much with rubber there because it isn't that dingy as i would expect for a rubber company. I've explored a rubber manufacturer before and it was far more dingy and dirty. Anyway, here are some photos:

And then there is this place. I noticed it near by. It's locked up quite tight. Almost impossibly tight with out special equipment. Anyone been in it? just curious about it.

| | | Climb that fire escape. Check for openings on the way up, and check the door on the roof.

| | | Ha, you were right about the photos giving it away. One shot of that cityscape and it was obvious. Seems pretty cleaned up, these days. I remember it a little messier. Maybe the decay is just decaying, heh.
Sorry, I probably forgot my <sarcasm> tags. |

| | | That place has a 24 hour guard, but he rarely leaves the guard shack on the West side of the property. The guard is mainly there to scare off squatters. There's a homeless shelter right across the street from the Crane Co. building. It's kept pretty tight. People don't realize how much stuff there is in Iowa. Granted it's not like NYC or Chicago, but there is quite a bit. [last edit 5/29/2011 3:00 AM by Radio2600 - edited 1 times]

| | | 24hr guard? i walked around that place like i owned it. Thats a bit of an exaggeration, but you had to go into the open to get from building to building and i feel like would have been easily seen if there was someone on the property. Ya i was only visiting iowa and this place is what i was able to discover with my limited time. Interesting about the Crane building, it would be a difficult explore. But ya, Iowa seems to have more than most would expect it to.

From the road on the North side, look down on the West side of the property and you'll see a metal shack with a car parked next to it. That's the guard. Like I said, he rarely leaves the guard shack. The woods around the property is loaded with squatter camps. The guard is just there to deter the squatters from moving into the buildings.
