Non-epic abandoned rest home

I've passed this any number of times on the Roanoke-Martinsville corridor on Route 220, but finally had a camera and some time. Somewhat disappointing and kind of sad to visit. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are already passing by. Pics have been downrez'd for speed of loading, nothing worth the bandwidth for big pics.

The outside:

I found a phone book dated 1999, so this is the condition after ten or so years of abandonment:

A view of the interior courtyard:

Some rooms were gutted, others still had clothes on the rack. The facility is right on the highway, you can see a car parked at the next property over out the window:

Even with no power, enough sunlight gets in for non-flash photography. Note the cheery cinderblock decor:

These clothes were originally in trash bags, now scattered in the main corridor:

On the floor near the main reception desk:

Overall it was a depressing place, mostly because I was imagining the people spending the last years of their lives there. And the exploration and photo ops were nothing to write home about.

I kind of like it actually, there is some potentially good stuff here. Its no asylum, but potentially good.

Not too shabby, really. The fact that it still has some interesting stuff left is a bonus. Good jorb.

Did you run into TAPS while you were there?

Rest homes are depressing places by default. I like the shot with the clothes still hanging in the closet. Something about it is just a bit unsettling.

You may call it non-epic, but it's certainly interesting and eye catching.
