| | Former prison, Uherske Hradiste, CZ < on 5/3/2011 2:19 PM >
| | | First of all, I want to apologize for mistakes in my english, It's not my mother language, but I am working on it. I already introduced myself a bit in the rookie forum. Now to the first interesting location from my area which I have visited recently and which I would like to share with you Few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit the former prison in Uherske Hradiste. The trip didn't really involved infiltration and it is actually not possible to get inside secretly on your own. Anyway, the place is not open to public, it is owned by the czech Ministry of justice and you have to know whom to write to let you in. Maybe it is not as cool as infiltrating the building undercover, but I didn't want to keep it to myself just because of that. I think it is really an amazing place worth sharing. The prison was built in the last years of the 19th century together with the district court building where the Secondary school of applied arts is situated today. The prison part of the complex is left abandoned and decaying.
The building has pretty turbulent history. In the Second world war during the german protectorate, the building was used by gestapo to imprison czech patriots. Lot of them were sent to concentration camps afterwards.
After the communists came to power in 1948, they used it as a place to keep political prisoners who were interrogated here and tortured brutally.
One of the most bizarre places I saw there was this former chapel, built for the prisoners. It is built in some kind of neo-baroque style but after the communists took over the place, they decorated it appropriately.
The writing says "Proletarians Of The World,Unite"
Solitary cells on the second floor.
As I said in the beginning, the place is owned by the Ministry of justice today and I heard that there were some plans to make some kind of museum of totality from it, but that was pretty long ago and nothing is still happening because of lack of money.
Oh, and there's another interesting fact. I don't know if there are also some gamers here, I don't play computer games anymore, but a guy on a different forum noticed that this prison was probably an inspiration for one mission in the game Mafia. I found this video on youtube: http://www.youtube...atch?v=Dirr889v-kU Maybe it isn't the exact copy of the place, but if you check out the staircase and the room with the big arch window, there sure must have been some inspiration here.

I've no sense, I lick electric fence; I put barbed wire in my pants and do a Celtic dance. - My Canon 300D is beat to hell, a bit finicky, and a 'lil loose, much like everything else I own... http://www.youtube...atch?v=IvN10-n1NBc |
