New Feature: LocationDB Stories!
< on 5/5/2004 6:09 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER Forum

In an effort to promote writing stories rather than just uploading huge galleries of uninteresting photos, the LocationDB now has a new feature: Stories!

Here is a sample story of a recent trip to MaRS that I did with Ninj.

http://www.uer.ca/locations/viewstory.asp?storyid=10000

Stories can be linked with a gallery, and images from that gallery can easily be embedded within the story. Stories, just like posts, can contain text formatting, links, images, and much more.

Try it out, let me know!

That is a genious feature!

Nice one av.

But tell me - is there any way of listing the sites with stories in them ?

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Nice. I tested it by posting my story of the Great Western Rail (Blue Ghost) tunnel. Nice addition. Nice addition, indeed.

A case for mods to have the ability to modify LDB entries.

Maybe there should be a Story Star? I am pretty sure it would encourage more people to write there stories down. Oh well, just a thought.

We've been over this. Stars make people do things the cheap and quick way with hopes of attaining the star. Now if there was a way to give a star to people that submitted a certain number of good stories, you might be on to something. I don't think we need this kind of complexity however.

stories will have the ability to be rated, and i can do that if you have a few stories with more than 7 on the ratings scale, you get a star.

That's perfect. I just didn't want to make it sound like I wanted Av to jump through coding hoops he wasn't already planning on.

how often does it update the location list that there is a story there? because I just wrote one and it didn't show up on the list of locations.

This is probably a temporary coding thing that will disappear within a few hours, but the Locations star has disappeared from a number of users (myself and turbozutek in this thread, for example). Just bringing it to the attention of the gods of the forums.

Excellent addition to the features Avatar!

I'm not much of a writer...but I'll definitely try and make the effort to add the occasional story when possible. I think it can definitely add a dimension to a gallery from a personal perspective.
