| | | Wackenhut security? < on 4/26/2011 3:54 AM >
| | | Trying to get into a former jail. The county contracted Wackenhut Security to watch the property. Anyone know anything about these guys? Are they a potential problem? Or glorified rent a cops who will never know I'm there as long as I don't do anything stupid?

| | | Its not so much a question of Whak. Its a question of what breed of security officer they placed there. They have employed a great number of ex military\cops so that always spells trouble, they take their job a bit too seriously. They also employ old men and trashy folks who dont pose much of an issue. I used to work for a company who contracted them so I know first hand. Go talk to the guard you would have to deal with a few nights beforehand and feel him/her out. Ask beneral qiestions, make chit chat. Thats the easiest way. Good luck. When it comesto stuff like that I try to call the commish or town planner to get permission, then just do it anyway lol
Well, that was fun. |

| | | Well if its the same as it is here then i i know a little bit about them. They carry a smaller version of the M16 and a handgun. They can also make arrests. They guard a power plant by me and when i went for a job there thats what they told me.

I often wonder how much of that word-of-mouth stuff is just scare tactics so no one even tries anything.

| | | They take their jobs pretty seriously. Like someone else said, they hire ex-cops and retired military. They guard SRS here in Aiken, SC or used to. Parsons may have taken over for them. Definitely more trouble than Rent-A-Cops. [last edit 4/26/2011 7:05 PM by MustangGina - edited 1 times]

| | | The particular place teh OP is asking about has pretty good security. They really don't mess around. Since it is right in the middle of a high income residential area, they tend to be pretty on the ball because if the demand from the community.

| | | Wackenhut is more like a military contractor than private security. They have rights that normal state licensed security guards do not have. Many of their current employees are not ex military, they're current. These guys tend not to fuck around. Depending on how important/expensive the facility is warrants how high up their security will be. Could be some dude who doesn't give a damn, or it might be someone who is srs about his job...

| | | Drake is Correct! Wakenhut Security Contracts Include Protection of Nuclear Materials handled here at the Savannah River Site. Our local nickname for the is Wacky-Nut's for a reason!
Most of the Guards are Ex-Military as well as active Military. They do employ hidden motion sensors and other nifty gadgets as well.

| | | For what it's worth I used to work at the Savvis facility in Texas and it was guarded by Whackenhut. A good portion of the internet traffic in the southwest went through this building. This location was on some list for the national guard to protect in case of a national emergency I was told. The guards didn't mess around.

| | | I work in the DC area and frequently contract out with both Wackenhut and Securitas. I also have a good friend that used to work for Wackenhut. What everyone is saying on here is on point. *Some* of the guards are armed and ex-cops/military depending on what level the company or facility has requested (and shelling out the big bucks for). Both companies do offer un-armed guards that in my general experience tend to not give a shit, are lazy, and not much of a threat. The armed guards are much more expensive to contract out, it really depends on how "high profile" the spot is. Someone suggested talking to the guards and feeling them out-I think that is your wisest option when it comes to figuring what kind of guards you are up against. Just my 2 cents.

| | | I work armed security in that area. I have co workers in wackenhut but it all boils down to the site. With that site being a medium priority, Honestly the best way in is to wait for the morning shift change <- IMPORTANT! My company is taking over that contract once the renovations are done and the governor's wife will be visiting often. So you can imagine what that site gonna become. Im also trying to get in before they completely tear that place apart but I haven't worked out a full proof plan. [last edit 5/17/2011 9:55 AM by hidden_pancakes - edited 1 times]

| | | This sounds more like a heist and less like taking pictures of abandoned shit. Just have your hot blonde friend steal a work van so you can just drive right through the front gates. Make sure you get a matching uniform, then just walk around like you own the place.

| | | When private security firms get involved with power plants and critical industrial sites they usually carry and have a lot more powers than the typical rent-a-cop. Every nuclear station, power plant and some select chemical companies I have worked at for shut downs don't take this likely. Even the sites that have permantley been closed that we still inspect for my job are still manned due to the work that went on at that site at one time.
