| | Junk Forum Issue < on 5/2/2004 9:50 PM >
| | | I know there have been quite a fair number of posts about the "Junk Forum" and while I hate to start a new thread about it, none seemed to fit my particular problem with it. I see the positive side of the forum, it gives the mods a place to put threads that don't belong anywhere else. It's also helpful to new users to show them what does and doesn't belong in normal discussion around here. However lately I've seen a disturbing pattern. Not only has it become a way to taunt users. I've got Masher in mind here, and while I know his posts are "tiring" I can't belive the lenghths people are going to just to "show him the error of his ways." I've also seen users HAPPY to have their thread moved there. This is what bothers me the most. I wonder if the junk forum isn't driving the wrong sort of behaviour. I'm afraid I can't offer anything in the way of a subsitute or solution though. Perhaps it's the "new-ness" of it all. -Just a thought- Pouch

| | | Perhaps having a thread moved to the junk forum should cause alarm bells to go off with Shane's proposed new system for warning trolls/lamers. This wouldn't count if the thread went way off course for a different reason, naturally (as opposed to most of masher's threads, which just go off course because they didn't really have any direction to begin with).

| | | Has the Junk Forum been closed down...? As all of the threads in there have been moved back to where they came from and locked.

| | | We're trying something different, as the presence of the junk forum was simply drawing more attention to the threads we wanted to set apart as being a waste of forum space. As of now, threads that are too lame will be locked.

| | | Oh man. Thank you. All that stupidity was depressing.
