I took the kids back here today.

Here's a gallery of pics from today:

And here's an even earlier UER thread with more pics:
http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post0

I first visited this site nearly a decade ago, in 2002, when I used to commute from Fredericksburg to Dahlgren. On my first visit the place was less overgrown, the windows and bathrooms were intact, and there was no graffiti that I saw. Such a shame.

I contacted the realtor back then and tried to buy just the land with the renfest buildings on it. I have a group of friends I was trying to get to go in on it with me. The realtor wouldn't sell just those parts, though, and thought that they could turn it all into an outdoor shopping mall or business park.

My friends and I used to played airsoft there for awhile, with all the used simunition laying around it looked like the military beat us to it though. In one of the smaller buildings there's a room you can only get to by climbing up a rafter, and inside some guy wrote a creepy poem on the wall, felt like finding a secret room in Portal.

The amount of simunition laying around is insane! One building had crates of empty boxes of it.

After being kicked out of this place on Monday with men with big guns, I contacted the realty man in charge.... Not telling him that I was there. Asking for photograph permission for a group... This is his response: Real name removed..

The corporate attorney states the property is posted "No Trespassing". They do not want any liability issues. Do not go on the property.

Considering how expensive that stuff is, I'd wager the local LEO's are using it as training space. It's several hundred dollars a rifle to convert them to even be able to use simunition.

That's crap... I hate when they do things like that - it's happened to me a few times too. That's when you giggle because A) You've already been on the property. or/and Others have been on the property and taken amazing photos.

Yikes.

Did they make any claims as to who they were? Hunters? Local LEOs?

I still haven't gotten around to going here yet, i'd really like to make a day trip out of this area in VA to see all the other cool spots it has to offer as well. Might be my plan for this weekend actually, maybe.

We heard gun shots when we were walking in. We were inside a building and a man with a gun just appeared out of no where! He called his "Game Warden" as he called him over. There were 5 of us and they were all snapping away while I got the duty of dealing with his Mean Man! There were at least 30 dogs running around chasing the scent of a rabbit. If we went and hid, I am sure those dogs would have found us!
The man with the gun said he kicked out 6 photographers so far that day and it was only 10 AM! He gave us the realty info and said we had to talk to him. They had legal permission.... so the gun man said..

I spent 2 hours in a car just to be thrown out... So we went and found other things to see! Not a wasted day!!

Cool Power Plant to shoot on Forbes and Caroline St.. .No entrance in, doors are welded shut... We also found the owners name and are working on him...

If this is the same place I was actually able to squeeze through the bars on one of the windows but I think they've since welded some new bars in between the old ones. It was pretty cool but nothing mind-blowing. I really want to get in the big sand-colored tower looking thing right near it but it seems pretty tightly locked up and the stairway would probably be pretty sketchy anyway :-/

Well after driving around for hours I happened to find myself in the area, so I figured I might as well swing by the fair. BTW, the no trespassing signs are labeled by a local hunting club, so it makes perfect sense that they had guns and dogs in there. While I was walking around I could see fresh tire tracks from both ATV's and Trucks, so if you are going there be careful. Made it a quick trip today and honestly didn't think it was worth much more than a few snaps but I'm glad I swung through.

Thank you! I would save the money to visit the person, I was barely convinced that it was worth the hour drive for me lol

I'm definitely planning a trip there soon. I think the 2.5 hour drive would be worth it...

I'm not sure it's worth that long of a drive....but then again, maybe map out some other spots near it.

I've also heard it's a little tricky to get to now, that it's watched fairly closely (as in don't park at the gate like you'll read in some places). I do know several people who've been caught there.

I was there back in November (a detour on my way to the Smithsonian), and the spring colors do brighten it up a bit. Probably a lot more ticks, though.
