Treat it like any other city, there are good and bad areas everywhere on this planet. Detroit is an amazing place, just blows my mind why so many people think it's this horrible place where you'll most definitely get mugged, raped, or shot. Although I would equate that to the massive amount of miss-information our media throws out there...shinfo
...also, you should shoot the 2 hour trip north to Flint and Saginaw. Two other great places that don't seem to get mentioned much

Seriously, though ... its like drama in any city. Shit, I was rounding the corner in the hood down here in Buffalo and found a dead body in the middle of the street from a guy who was shot in the face in a random drive by - 3pm in the afternoon. Was I phased? No. I pulled out my camera and took some pictures of the police on scene and the body. It's like anything else you do in life. It comes with risk, and with big cities (not saying Buffalo is the same or different), you use common sense. Don't fuck with the homies, keep your shit clearly packed until you need it, and walk (run) in the other direction in any sign of conflict. I mean would you hang around if some homies were coming to get you? No ... you move quickly in the oppisite direction, rather than find out wtf they want. Its COMMON SENSE.
Disclaimer to anyone who finds the term "homies" a little less than PC. By that I mean street thugs with alternate agenda to yours - which could be any creed, sex, or orientation. Just trying to get my point across.
