Consumption juncton, that was your function

Construction began in 1897 for Canada's first tuberculosis hospital which is nestled on banks of a lake of a now very well known, and popular, cottage destination. By the 1920's this former 35 bed cottage had expanded its facilities to house nearly 450 patients (444 to be exact). Over the years the patients this facility administered to evolved as the needs of society changed. Somewhere between the 1940-1960's this sanatorium turned into a facility for mentally handicapped persons. The doors of this facility finally closed in 1994, and it has since sat vacant. Currently parts are used by the OPP for training, while other parts are left to decay.

Logtec and I arrived to the location in the early afternoon on a nice sunny day. Upon arrival we noticed that a great deal of the building was covered in a sheet of ice, only some areas beginning to melt. Most of the stairwells were treacherous to climb and descend, as one of us could attest to. We quickly used the buildings decay to our advantage as the piles of peeling paint that layered each step was a grip when moving from floor to floor. I found that there were still a few rooms with patients names on the doors - Paul & Joyce...Suitcases, random chairs/tables, and fire extinguishers are almost all that furnish this building now. The peeling paint, rust, moss covered floors and walls decorate the entire facility.

As most explorers do, I added my name to the blackboard listing past visitors, but I went one step further....somewhere in this location I added my name, but not with a pen. Do you know where it is??

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

as a gentleman, i can't tell you how magically epic this anniversary celebration was. what happens on a 15th anniversary in a mouldy and flooded tuberculosis sanitorium stays in a mouldy and flooded tuberculosis sanitorium.
I'll have a post up soon, until then...

L'Ali, Logtec - Great work! This place looks so cool. I hope you didn't catch any cooties!

PS - Ali did you leave your panties in this place? I'm trying to figure out how else you left your name behind....

Jerm - nice shots. Happy Anniversary. I couldn't imagine 15 years with the same person...Unless it was David Beckham or Jessica Biel.... Or both....yum....

I'm typing this with my middle fingers.

The cooties would have been caught at location 2, not posted here but on Flickr. Mold, lots of mold.

Nope, I didn't leave anything behind, I used what was already there

Jerm - did you find where I "signed" my name?

I wonder how many people those icy stairs have taken to school...

It certainly almost happened to me on several occasions.

Nice writeup L'Ali

I'm shocked my ass wasn't taken out by all the ice. One area with the fake wood walls was about an inch of water on top of the ice, I was sure I was going to take a dramatic slip-slide and splat in that wing. Would have been worth it though. And Logtec probably would have taken pics LOL

Banditt - Thanks! I try to ensure the write-up is just as interesting, and factual, as the pics themselves.

Haymaker - The basement steps were the worst. . . I smashed my camera a few times when hanging on for dear life.

thanks to a message from Logtec, ninja IX and I were wearing ice cleats, which made traversing this winter wonderland quite easy. many floors have a few inches of ice under another few inches of water, as the ice melts and the drip drip drips echo and follow you around.

this place is already an all time fave and I can't wait for a summer return.

Even your pics from just a few days later had a lot more melted then it was when we were there.
