So I had heard that Dixie Square was supposed to be demolished in November 2010, but wikipedia say that as of this month, it's still up. Do you think there would be an added risk of being caught if I decided to go now? Has any one been there very recently?

| | | | It seems real hit or miss. Keep in mind there is an active police station on the grounds of this place, so if you get spotted you'll probably be confronted by them. If you get in there un-noticed, then you will probably be ok, but I've heard the place is a gutted shell of itself at this point, not much else to see. :-/

The cops patrol the lot now, though why I'm not sure.
Not the nicest area, so I assume they're trying to avoid having squatters in there.

Better known as "Penney's". Yes there are several very large holes in the 2nd floor; more it seems every winter.

"The city of Harvey is also planning for the demolition of Dixie Square Mall located on 151st and Dixie Highway. The mall, which has been vacant for almost 30 years, is famous for being the location where the mall chase scene in the movie The Blues Brothers was filmed. The city is working with an environmental company. The city also plans to choose local contractors and subcontractors to assist in the demolition of the vacant property. The completion of the demolition is slated for August.

Putting the new casino out in Harvey would completely defeat the purpose of the gambling expansion bill. The whole point was to take money from tourists and business travelers, not laid off factory workers! You would think that the Sun-Times would want to draw attention to Wolf Point as a good candidate for a massive upscale destination entertainment/hotel complex, not turn it away...
I hope there aren't any real politicians actually considering this. It makes about as much sense as building a new Vikings stadium at the TCAAP!
