Oh c'mon, just because if you slip you go into the damn river on a national border of a paranoid state doesn't make it THAT bad. Not to mention the challenges of getting there unapprehended, making it past the wolves, etc.

I'd really love to go, but posting even something as vague as a two day window of when you're planning on going isn't a good idea. I don't really even know how you'd get down there or get back up. Going in at night or when there is fog or heavy rain would seem prudent to me. If I did go, I'd want to bring some climbing gear so I could get up into the generator hall. Right now I just have rappelling stuff, no ascender or anchors. I was thinking of welding up a grappling hook from rebar, and using a knotted rope instead of an ascender, but anything you'd hook onto in there might be too rusted out.
I wonder if PositivePressure left his anchors in place.
Edit: Going there in the winter seems like suicide to me: I'd imagine everything is covered in ice and you'd fall from height or into the rapids. I've got crampons and an ice axe, but I can see things going very wrong even with proper equipment, especially now that things are thawing.

Getting to the tailrace is one thing, but attempting to ascend the wheelpit is another beast altogether, and something not to be even thought of without yrs of SRT experience and lots of equipment. PP and I didnt use permanent anchors and removed everything before heading up - theres nothing left in there. so much of the metal down there is rotten and its just resoundingly imprudent to even think about using a grappling hook.
moreso, NPC reads these forums, and the penalties for getting caught anywhere near the gorge will not be fun. They're a lot less tolerant of this shit than they were even a yr or two ago.

It would seem... but Kowalski almost never talks about the grave risks. He has the skills needed to succeed in his endeavours (mostly).
He has years of experience under his belt.
The 'do not try this at home' disclaimer is largely ignored. This place needs some serious thought, research and timing. It is REALLY dangerous and should not be thought of as any sort of 'UE Tourist' destination... EVER. If you get caught at the wrong time, you could surely drown. That water level is NOT constant and can change in a heartbeat. The ice makes it especially dangerous, even with proper equipment. If you get hurt down there, you are NOT getting out of there on your own.
