| | Spring Break Urbex Trip < on 3/1/2011 5:52 AM >
| | | So, a few friends and I are going to take an Urbex trip for Spring Break. We're starting out in NC, but want to head out to other states to check out some cool stuff. We'd love to do mainly Northeast stuff, but figure it is still going to be too cold / snowy. Anyone have suggestions? Stuff we have to do? Cities we need to visit? Anyone interested in showing us around somewhere they know of? Thanks you for any input.

| | | I'll second that. I'm sure I've talked to you here but not explored with you, or something. But then I only remember things I take pictures of.

| | | I'm Taylor. I'm a junior in computer engineering at NCSU. AnAppleSnail, you know we, I just hardly ever post on here, so you don't know the username. (Plus, I sent you a Facebook message about this, and Aurelie replied.)

| | | I'm in Chapel Hill. There are a couple of decent spots around the triangle worth visiting, but if you're starting from Raleigh I can always show you/go with you on your way back. Nothing incredibly noteworthy, but if you're close they're good for a photo or two.

| | | Hey, we're not really looking to do anything in NC during Spring Break, but I'd definitely be interested in getting together to do stuff some other time. We've actually spent a good amount of time exploring around UNC lately - there's some cool stuff over there. We're always interested in finding new things in the Triangle, since we're starting to run out of options close by.

| | | You want a fun spring break? Get a ride down to the CSX yard near Peace College at 7 am and get on a freight train. It'll take you to Hamlet NC and then you can go on to wherever you want. New York, Ohio, SC, Florida, Kentucky, etc. Check the loading slips on the nicer looking box cars or just pick a string at random.

Sounds like a plan. From your experience how controlled are the train lines, as in how often did you spot bulls in this area along the lines? I know some stations are more secured than others. I don't mind hitchhiking my way back to wherever I end up, but I just can't forsee doing this without someone who's had experience with it before. You need someone with knowledge of the types of cars and potential dealings with rail personnel.

| | | If you don't mind trekking out this far west, Louisville, KY has some great relics of yesterday's urban history-- both abandoned and not.
