| | | Sydney Lighthouse < on 2/12/2011 6:47 AM >
| | | I go on holiday to a small fishing village on the south coast of NSW, Australia every chance I get. Nobody knows me or my family because they hardly ever use it but it gives me a chance to escape out into nothing. There are rumours of an abandoned hotel from the 30's on an island nearby that I have always wanted to explore but have never had the chance to do it, but I did find this lighthouse standing on top of an archipelago in the area while out bushwalking. The building itself was originally constructed of timber in 1882 and located as part of the Shoalhaven Signal Station on the beach 200 metres to the west of the current lighthouse. The new brick lighthouse to the south of the mouth of the river was commissioned in 1904 and the old wooden lighthouse was immediately demolished. It was since abandoned and left to rot with the upgrades to navigation equipment. ABC Illawarra radio reports state that as of February 8 2011, a sum of $100,000AUD has been set aside for improved security and to stop vandalism.

| | | That location is pure win and your pics are excellent. That place has things I like a lot, the ocean, a lighthouse, photo ops galore, exploration. I would easily spend a whole day there alone. Thanks for sharing, I love my new wallpaper. ........................Kurtz

| | | Thank you for the kind words It's small, but beautiful and a fun spot to have a little lunch amongst decay on the south coast, the only issue is having to get through one of the windows to get inside, which is no mean feat.
