The system is also a CSO so AFAIK, if doesn't drain directly to the lake. Currently a Quarry is serving as a holding area and apparently the system is large enough to hold water after a storm until water treatment plants can process it.

True, when I lived in Chicago the city bragged about these holding silo on how much they can hold from a huge storm. They did this but part of the city still get flooded when it rains really heavy. I heard its controlled so they won't over fill them right away. I've seen either entrance or outlet here and there part of the city, and always wanted to go in one but it was pretty deep to take a risk.

Drains, you'll die a slow painful (and soggy) death.

But there are abandoned subways stops, and I remember my dad mentioning that when they "raised the city" A lot of the old sidewalks just became steam tunnels and things like that. Try popping grates.

Is that snow or asbestos?

The only "abandoned" subway stop is the Washington stop on the Red Line. It is however, perfectly legal to access-- just walk between the Monroe and Lake stops on the platform level. Well, the platform is legal to access...the mezzanines, not so much. I guess you could maybe count the southern platform of Jackson Red Line as abandoned, but there's not much to it.

There are a few abandoned/unfinished subway spurs, both off of the Blue Line and the Red Line, but they are all very short.

There are also several abandoned stations in various states of disrepair, on the Blue Line, Green Line, and Red Line. All are above ground, however.

Telecom and electrical tunnels are pretty common throughout the city, even well outside of downtown.
