From what I know, it is being demolished as of Thanksgiving 2010. I plan on returning here maybe some time at the end of the month to see if anything else has been done.

Sad to see it go, sadder I didn't see it before she burned. Mind you don't get seen there; they're still touchy about trespassers for some reason.

From what I can see, some private company has been using it for storage of vehicles and other expensive things.

Also, :[

This was one of my favorite places in the area.

reckless thoughts abide; anachronistic and impulsive.

loosely jacketed against the cold and ten thousand worlds for the choosing.

Really? From what I could decipher on Google Maps, it looks like the roof was full of holes, are they trying to build a car park there or some other shoddy apartment complex?

The holes are from the fire. It's near enough some stuff to be worth something as property once they level it. But I suspect that development will run out of money as soon as they destroy all the pretty parts.

If you're interested in old mills, there's plenty around the Spartanburg area in Upstate SC. The Whitney mill is still standing, and it hasn't been explored to my knowledge. The owner got in trouble for failing to remove the asbestos a couple years back, but since then, the feds came and made sure it was gone- so one less hazard there. The only security measure is a 7ft. barbed-wire fence, but it can be easily cut in an inconspicuous area. There isn't much else I know about it, but I lived within walking distance from it for a few years and I'm sure it'd be a great place to check out. I researched a bit and found this video from a local news website detailing the asbestos clean-up in the spring of '09.
