NUNS AND TREEHOUSES - Covington, LA with Medic Pathetic

Thanks to the UE website I was able to go exploring in Covington, LA and was shown around by some of the locals, in which I had a great time. Medic Pathetic, a member of the website, met up with me last Wednesday and showed me some of the great places he had found. We started with trying to find an old school and housing complex for kids with special needs, I believe. Ended up it had been torn down. There was a house at the front of the property and a tree fort that we found while walking along the path. We went back and into the house and those are the first few pictures. I did pop my head into the tree house but there was only a couple of old doors. After that we drove about 20 minutes to the next place, which was an old abandoned Catholic Convent that housed a large number of nuns. There was about 50 bedrooms, some with shared bath rooms and some with none, and a large room where it appeared they would have had mass or something, a kitchen and a storage room. There was also an old Winnebago and old pig farm we went into on the way out. I did not really take any pictures of those.

Since you asked me via private message for help, I thought I might do it here just in case you're not back within the 24 hour limit to modify your post.

When you are posting your links from Flickr, you are pasting the entire hyperlink instead of just the link to the image.

Here are your first three photos as they appeared in your post:

The only part of the Flickr code that you need to be concerned about is the source (src) of it. We don't reallllly want to use hyperlinks to images when we are posting a message when we can provide the glorious photos themselves, right?

All you need to do is look for the code beginning with "img src" (image source) and ending with the photo's extension (.jpg for JPEG or .GIF, etc.)

If you look closely you will see that every hyperlink for an image in your original post contains "img src=" which in English means "image source". You want what is in the quotation marks. I don't worry about width and height.

Now I've painfully stripped away all unnecessary code for you and this is what you want:

Notice the perfectly formed link to an image: It begins with "http" and it will end with the file extention (.jpg, .gif, whatever). We've removed the "img src", we've removed the quotation marks.

Now I think Flickr will actually provide you with the exact link to the photo and in this case you simply used the wrong code. I don't use Flickr so I don't know for sure but I'm 99% certain that Flickr gives you the direct link to the photo. Just remember you want it to begin with "http" and to end in ".jpg" or ".gif" or whatever file-format you are using. JPEG is preferred.

Once you have grabbed the image link from Flickr (or any other website) all you need to do is wrap it up in a 'tag' so UER knows that it should be displaying the photo.

For example, if you take the first link from my example and paste it exactly as it looks, you get this:

http://farm6.stati...877_83d5afdb75.jpg

You can click that link and the image appears... great except we are visual people and providing the images themselves would be even better than a list of links.

To accomplish this you can do one of two things...

1) Manually add the tags to each link which is tedious...

By wrapping each link (like you'd wrap a gift) with an image tag (IMG) the image will appear properly. This is done by starting a link to a photo with "[ img ]" and ending it with "[ /img ]". You won't use spaces like I did, I did that do that it would display properly.

Now that you are confuzzled, I will try to summarize it all nicely....

1) You only want the actual link to a photo on Flickr when posting on UER. Some people have had success using Flickr code to display thumbnails that you click on but sometimes this fails as we've seen here.

2) A proper link to a photo begins with "http" and ends with the filename (eg. "myawesomephoto.jpg" or in the case of Flickr a series of numbers).

3) Place a "[ img ]" before the link and end it with "[ /img ]" (without the spaces). The link now works...

And to close this tutorial, there's a very easy method to make links into actual images. If you highlight your entire photo link and click on the "Image" button of the UER editor, it does it for you...

Watch...

In the above image I have highlighted the entire URL link after copying it from Flickr or stripping away all the unnecessary code.

And if I click on the Image button (circled in red)

It changes, and the tags are added automatically.

Now I am going to highlight every link and click on the image button... you could also manually add the tags.

And voila..............

Yeah, for sure I will need to make it up that way. I am slowly trying to knock out as many down here as I can but I'll let you know. Got anything super awesome up there?

One place in particular that seems like a place that would be hard to access and also I think it was put on to a historic landmark deal. A few other places too, I'd have to keep a better eye out when I go on my runs (when the weather becomes nicer).

I saw the fair grounds you posted, that looks pretty sick. I loved the ship. I diffidently would have had to check that out. Did you every explore the rest of it? But yeah let me know. I'm from Alaska so I don't mind the cold...

The Fair Grounds was actually in Virginia too far for a day trip from here.
I have tons of more photos of that place plus a few more places from my time in VA.

This is the building that I really want to check out here in Shreveport.

Bad image I know but it's the best I can do from google street view from here at work. But the building is huge.

I am down as well. I think I remember you saying something about that and that would just be freaking awesome if that's there and we are able to go. So don't leave me out.
