Photography Critique Threads

Av, would it be possible to program the option of creating a special type of "critique thread" for the photography board? I was thinking of a thread where a member could post a single picture and a short comment only. Then other users would be able to comment and give it a 1 - 10 rating for both technique and creativity. (This is very similar to photo.net).

It would be a very useful tool for people out there who are just learning photography. I realise that this is a resource that is available elsewhere but it would be nice for UER members to be able to get real feedback on their pictures from members of the UE community. It is always nice to know what people like and dislike about your work.

Does anyone else think this would be a useful addition?

While I don't think this is necessarily a bad idea, shouldn't a main aspect of a critique thread be to describe what's either good or bad about it? It would be great if my picture got an 8.2 or something, but if you don't tell me why, you haven't helped me.
With the option of a rating scale, I can see many people simply giving it a numerical rating with no written rationale.

the problem with this approach is that there would be one thread for every photo, which would get really huge, really quick..

perhaps another solution could be created

How about we design something similar to the Post Voting system? Would that be more do-able? Although then again, you'd still need some sort of gallery type of layout, maybe a specific gallery per user so all that user's pictures go into one place and people can go and vote on the specific ones, or sorry, critique the specific ones.

Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt.

Forthright, I though of this as well. Maybe a text comment could be required before the numerical vote could be given. The comment box could even have two sectiosn with built in text - What I like about this photo is... , What I don't like about this photo is ...

Av, What if it was limited to 1 or 2 pictures per user and there was say a 2 week expiry period after which it would be automatically deleted or archived?

Edit - Frost, I was thinking of something more than just a voting system.

So am I... I just couldn't think of any other way to describe it

I think this is a very good idea. Maybe the pictures are posted, and can be voted on, the numberical vote would be seen publicly whereas criticism/advice/whatnot could maybe be routed directly to the poster via PM or email. Not sure if that could be coded, but you've amazed me so far Av. Something like this should come to fruit in one incarnation or another; it is a great idea.

It would be great to see something like http://www.photo.net but for UE related pictures only. I would even offer to program it, but it would have to be php since unfortunately I am not an asp whiz.

I also really like this idea. It would give us an opportunity to see what people who shoot what we shoot think. It's not like we do children's portraits, so it's hard to get a good opinion.
