A very pretty house i found, right off 95 in Manteo, a 5 min walk from my house.

I used to explore in this house all the time when i was younger.

The house has slowly become more decrepit over the years...

It was subject to a fire and was abandon...god knows when...

The upstairs is far too rickety to actually walk on now...

Ohhh, the carpet in this room is now green...

There is still a hole made by a friend recently passed away.

Nostalgic.

'bout 3 years my friend ripped up a piece of wall that was rotten and found the name John B. Etheridge.

This grave is in the middle of the woods, off an abandon road.

under the pinestraw is beat up asphalt.

Cool find. Your friend knocked a hole in the wall and found a name? Written on the stud, or what?

Yeah, it was written in ink or something, it was really worn. I am assuming it was a relative. That is a very common name around here.

I really like the texture of the wood in the second shot. The grain just makes me feel warm and happy. When you used to explore it as a kid were there still items inside, or has it always been this hollow? Cool find though, gravestone is pretty solid.

A little bit of Google-Fu seems to point to the first caretaker of the Bodie Island Lighthouse having that name and owning most of the land around it. Don't know if it's the same guy though. How far is this place from there?

There's also a member of the General Assembly with the same name listed in 1874.

Looks like a neat place, thanks for sharing.

Cool! I still can't believe anything sits empty down there, though. My wife announced last night that our next vacay will be there this summer, so maybe...

I was down there this past summer.
We were disappointed that they’re fixing up the lifeguard station (sounds awkward doesn’t it… UE is a strange sport). And on the abandoned road we actually didn’t go far enough to see the covered bridge. We saw the first bridge and thought that was it and was damaged during a hurricane. (double fail, what’s it mean!?)
Walk with your GPS!!!!
If someone does go, get yourself one of the Bumper cars, but bring me back the toy jeep…

Here’s a thread: http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=86422

Plus the place is full of history, besides some of the obvious (Wrights Bros), there’s civil war & the lost colony. And, if you have a 4x, there’s lots of places to drive on the beach, and check out the wild horses while driving the trails to VA.
We did hours of Bing Birds Eye before going (realize, some shots are VERY old).
