| | | Hello! I'm new to the site and thought I'd post something here in order to introduce myself. I live in Maryland, about ten minutes south of Annapolis. I've only been into UE for about 18 months but already deeply enjoy it. I'm particularly fond of abandoned structures, though I suppose that's commonplace here. I thought I'd also post a few pictures from a place I checked out back in September with a friend of mine. "Hilltop House" isn't its real name, I just use the term as a pet name. Before closing in 2004, it was once a group home of sorts that provided "structured residential placement for adolescent boys between the ages of 13 - 18 years old who have a history of emotional disturbance, learning disabilities and/or related behavioral problems". The goal of this was for those admitted to receive treatment and care so they wouldn't have to be transferred to a more secure, restrictive setting--like, say, the asylum next door. These smaller versions of the original photos came from my Facebook, as well as most of the description. Every picture posted is one that I took. I'm not sure if this location is one already well-known to UER, but I figure they might be worth posting anyway. I apologize the quality of the shots isn't the best, my camera's kinda messed up and I keep forgetting to have it cleaned out. I picked out the ones I felt were best, so hopefully you'll find them decent.
1. Front of the house.
| 2. An old boiler setup in the basement.
| 3. The large window overlooking the area behind the house. The bottom of the window shows an old brick structure out back. Some sort of fireplace I guess.
| 4. Second-floor hallway. The first floor and basement were fairly cool because everything was boarded up, but the second and third floors were probably 80+ for the opposite reason. Might as well have been a sauna.
| 5. Looking out one of the windows in a second-floor room. For some reason a lot of windows on the second and third floors were left open.
| 6. Another second-floor window.
| 7. Someone left behind a pair of Air Jordans. Whoops.
| 8. Behind the house is a garage. Behind and below that sits a defunct greenhouse with old books, journals, photos, etc., strewn all over the floor of a small office attached to it. This was inside one of the three greenhouse rooms; the smell only got worse from here.
| 9. The war.
| 10. An old journal.
