| | | Posted by aurelie Glowsticks really don't give off much light at all. You're better off with a bright flashlight, or a few of them. Or fire if you aren't worried about accidentally burning the place down.

what?!?! NO...what ever you do dont do this. this is why we cant have nice things anymore and half the places get burnt down by fucktards lol.

|
They only glow when orcs are around, actually. (Sorry, LotR geek) How about road flares? Just make sure you don't put them on or near anything flammable. Also, a propane or liquid fuel lantern is bright as hell, and, assuming it doesn't summon the gendarmes, should illuminate a large area. I suspect you're not afraid of the dark so much as just afraid from being alone and in the dark. I've explored alone and I get pretty freaked out in dark places. Once I was exploring in a factory by myself after having watched The Descent and 30 Days of Night in the preceding week. Not a good way to calm the nerves. I just mostly stayed out of the dark areas, but forced myself into some of them. I still haven't been in the bowels of the place. Here's a document of my visit: http://www.youtube...atch?v=Q0fsSXbHsQk

Erm...that's a matter of opinion. I have used tea lights and bowls of fire for lighting setups in abandonments (but not near anything flammable, with water to put it out, and very carefully watched for errant sparks) but clearly I didn't mean actually setting anything on fire, or setting up a campfire (which I have done in abandonments, but not ones made out of wood).

Using spent nuclear fuel rods that just happen to look like beams of wood doesn't count.

I've thought about playing with tea-lights but I don't live near an Ikea so I'd be using my small collection of zippos.

Alright, well I'm going in a few hours. Here's what I've got: 2x Quark flashlights 1x Head lamp 1x 2D Maglight 1x B&D Boat light 1x 4D LED camping lantern If I still lose my shit in there then I'm utterly hopeless.

Good luck! I definitely agree with the camping lantern for area light. [last edit 11/24/2010 5:56 AM by ensimismada - edited 1 times]

| | | Totally went in. Only really needed the headlamp and lantern. Thanks all! edit: You know it wasn't nearly as bad or scary as I thought it'd be. I psyched myself out far worse than it was. I can't say that I'm totally over my fear, just that this place didn't really force me to deal with it... odd. [last edit 11/25/2010 5:46 AM by jinx13 - edited 1 times]

I dunno, caving with a headlamp kind of feels like a cheat sheet. "It's light everywhere I look! I can't find any darkness!" @ Jinx - I'm glad to hear that everything worked out even easier than expected.
