So it's been 4 months now.... how'd it go?

I used my rope to hide my Geocache and a group of 15 people needed several hours over several days to find it.
But at the end they used a magnet to pull it up.

I will redo it after the summer and screw it to the outside wall.

Have you ever considered taking a picture for your avatar, that's in focus?

I'm just wondering...

Next time I have to wear all this stuff I will take a new picture.
I am in Vegas right now and even here it would look weird, and we have some weird festival going on right now.

This is overkill.

  • PPE should be based on the most pressing hazards on site. You do not need to lug around chest waders if there is no water near your site.
  • You should always bring a charged cell phone (set to the number of the person who knows that you are in the building), this eliminates the need for any other communication device.
  • I like to carry a folder with all the possible history I could find on the place.
  • A camera would be great. I would not risk an SLR in most places (considering I would have to throw bags over fences or off the buildings in some explores) I would usually use an Olympus as they are the Nokia of cameras.

You're presupposing that the places we would go wouldn't actually require that PPE.

A short jaunt through my post history would at least prove you wrong... Just sayin.

Overkill depends on individual needs, not what YOU think someone else needs

how do you "set" a cell phone to a number?

I have a contacts list. It's pretty easy to use.

Also, there is no cell service in mines...., or in most of the desert, or in many drains. Or in other outlaying areas.

You realize that carrying that folder turns what you're doing into premeditated?

Pretty much none of the people around here who have to climb over fences or ninja themselves off rooftops use DSLR's either, cuz... yeah. There are just no hardcore people who use those big bulky cameras. So I can totally see your point on that one.

Here at the beach there isn't anything that can really block a cell signal except simply being out of range of a tower so my phone is really all I need. If I were out with others I might consider walkies to communicate with the rest of the group. If you go out alone you should ALWAYS leave word with someone dependable of exactly where you are going and when to expect you back. That way if you break a leg or something you can expect rescue once the time limit you've set on when you should be back expires. Go watch 127 hours, all he had to do was tell a friend or his family where he'd be going and he would have been found in less than two days. The folder thing is a good idea for research to be sure but I wouldn't recommend taking it with you to the place.
