This is a brownfield site in north-central NC, and if you're interested you can figure out where it is from that. Short form:

Plusses:
Structurally sound
Easy access
Occasionally photogenic
Big

Minuses:
Right next to well-travelled roads and occupied houses
Occasional police patrols
Lots and lots of broken glass

It was a target of opportunity on my way through town to somewhere else and I only had about an hour to devote to it. I would really like to have spent the whole afternoon poking around, but I doubt I would have found anything amazing in the extra time. It is a brownfield site, and in addition there are gobs of busted florescent tubes in spots. I went on a day when it was dry and the site is well ventilated, but my impression is that it is not immediately toxic. I would not want to sleep over, eat lunch there or wander around on a day where wind stirred up indoor dust.

Apologies for some of the dim/blurry pics, the flash was not working so I had to use low-light mode. For ingress, the factory used to be locked up tight, but there are a couple places where vandals have broken down doors or torn open fences.

If you can see this from where you parked, you might get a visit by the police. I don't know if they patrol regularly, or whether a neighbor saw me pull in, but I was not visible from the road. I saw the police parked next to my car just as I was finishing up, but about the time I made myself a bit less scruffy-looking, they left. I am guessing they just ran my plates to see if I was a known problem. I had no encounter with them after I left and ironically, I could not find any of them to ask on the way out of town.

This is a panorama from the other side. There are two structures connected by a walkway. The lower level of the one on the right is a basement with no access to the upper level I saw in my cursory walk-through. The basement is big enough to be thoroughly black anywhere past the sunlight that gets through open doorways. Note the scars left by previously attached structures. Do not just open doors in this building and and walk through, some of them have a several story drop on the other side because the place they went to is no longer there.

Here's one from the basement. There were plenty of pallets, barrels, stacks of chairs, ladders, lumber, old light bulbs and god-knows-what-else hiding outside the range of my headlamp. It looked like about ten thousand square feet of haphazardly arranged stuff.

Some general pics from the outside. The second pic shows the loading area next to the basement, and the last picture is some sort of holding area for wastewater. It also shows how close it is to the road and a nicely mowed lawn.

The obligatory bathroom shot.

The biggest surprise of the trip. Next to what looked like an employee lounge was a makeshift dental clinic. X-ray machines, autoclaves, all manner of supplies and chemicals scattered about by vandals. This was just set up in an open area, not even a dedicated space or any visual privacy.

Second most interesting bit. A giant spiral sliding board four stories tall. I presume for sending finished goods down to the lower level. I was either too smart or too chicken to give it a try. Plus there was junk piled up at the bottom.

A few generic photogenic pics. There were a couple levels where the entire ceiling was flaking paint like this. There were also big sections of floor where it was crunchy crunchy with broken florescent light tubes, so try not to stir up any dust. Remember that it is a brownfield site. The bottom one is taken between the two levels and looking at another abandoned structure.

There are enough abandoned spots in this area that I could probably devote an entire day just to scouting. If anyone is interested in specifics, they can message me privately.

Nice! Though some people might act like you have to be a photographer to be an explorer, that is certainly not true. Looks like a fun place to wander around in.

This looks like an excellent spot! Too bad you only had an hour to run through it, I would like to spend the day picking around (with mask). Good pics, lesson learned: always carry gear, cuz you never know!
