Abandoned House in Hamtramck on Halloween!

10/31/2010: An out of town friend and I enjoyed a brief but eventful exploration in an abandoned house earlier today. The place was chock full of discarded kids toys and bikes, videotapes and several scrapbooks that someone had made of articles on Poison, LA Guns, Motley Crue, Skid Row and several other 80's - 90's era hair bands.
We found a water bed upstairs that was still full of water and largely undamaged as well. Just as we were ready to head out, I hear a woman's voice saying, "Hey, what are you doing in there ?" or words to that effect. To make a long story short, some nosy neighbor had called the police on the 'intruders' in the old house. I should mention that while they made us leave, the two officers were neither 'cocky' or 'mean' in any way and were only performing their duty. After about one minute, they decided we were no threat and let us go. My friend even remarked that they seemed genuinely more concerned about our safety than the fact that we were trespassing.
Believe it or not, in 30-odd years of sporadic urban exploring, this is actually the FIRST time I have ever been caught in the act by the police. All in all, that's not a bad record.
Pictures can be viewed here if anyone cares to look.... :

I don't need to Google it...I've lived here my entire life so I'm perfectly aware what it means. And by the way, it used to be called Devil's Night back in the day.

Fair enough. I read your response that you were surprised to be caught exploring an abandoned house... on a night when 20,000 people in the City are on the look out for people doing just that. I wouldn't have thought that a resident would have been surprised to be caught on Angel/Devil's night.

Well, given the timing I suppose it was no big surprise, but the fact that I had been in so many other buildings over the past decades (small, medium, large and super sized) in so many different sections of the 'greater Detroit area' I was just a bit chagrined that it happened at a vacant house only a few blocks from my home. If I had been busted at the old train depot, funeral home, sky scraper, department store, church, etc., it might have been a bit more dramatic.
