Well, we do have both a hospital and a school, though they are certainly not the greatest. I also know quite a few drains in the charlotte area.

I am your guest and along for the ride! The one in statesville seems pretty cool. We will be in the kannapolis/china grove/Salisbury area.

Also, I unfortunately will not be able to attend this meetup due to me being halfway across the country at the time, but if anyone has any questions they can PM me.

No idea, AFAIK, everything around charlotte is actively being converted to office space/condos

What about the outskirts? The hospital isn't in charlotte and a couple of other places look neat outside of the Charlotte area.

All the abandoned buildings that aren't squarely in other cities seem to have Mexicans in them at all hours doing renovation work.

I have to agree on that one. I just need to take one weekend to gastonia and see what's there. I think that's pretty much what of industry is left in this area. No idea if there is anything down in Rock Hill.

OK so my wife and I will be leaving for NC tomorrow. IS there anyone else that wants to join the couple of us doing the exploring? I have an event page to make it easier to keep track of everyone wanting to do this.

Some data about one of the locations. Sadly, 50% is demolished and the entire area is being demolished right now. While I was there, I approached two guys in probably their 60s-70s years that were also walking around the place. Turned out one of them used to work there in the 1970s. This was a textile mill and took as much land as the new development due north and the current business south. The place was built in the late 1930s and closed in early 1990s.

Ya'll ought to give me a heads up before you come; I haven't been in the maternity ward in years, and there's talk among the city council of tearing down the whole hospital.

They actually just passed some ordinances to make it easier to do so. Broke my heart.

Awwww, that sucks if they are gonna tear it down. The plans have been changed though, gotta take care of a recent trespass ticket before I can go. :o( But I definately wanna head that way maybe in Jan. you know after court is done with. I will let ya know though when we head that way.
