IL: Arlington Park Hilton

Has anyone checked this out? I stumbled upon it while visiting a couple weeks ago. I spotted a security guard walking around the perimeter as I drove by, so I didn't attempt to get any closer than this. Looks like this place has changed hands a few times. Back when I was living there it was always the Arlington Park Hilton, but looks like it was a Sheraton most recently. Apparently, there's a water park behind this place too. Either way, looks like it won't be abandoned for very long. Obviously, the place still has power. Would be epic to get inside this place!!!

That just closed within the last year or so, the waterpark was built only a few years earlier.

That's what my buddies were telling me. The view from the top would be pretty epic, I'm sure you could see the Chicago skyline on a clear enough night from up there.

A friend of mine lives twenty minutes or so from here, and assures me that it would be easy to get into.

I would just worry that it might be watched over often :/

If anyone decides to venture in, be careful.

I worked on the roof about 8 years ago installing cell phone equipment. They said they got more money from cell companies than renting rooms.

It's right next to the Arlington Race Track, which gets a lot of visitors I suppose. Back when it was built there probably weren't a lot of other hotels around.

Pretty sure they opened the waterpark to try and compete with Great America's waterpark, and Key Lime Cove. It only survived about 3 years.

It just seems way, WAY too big for just a racetrack. What year was this built?

The racetrack was first opened back in 1927. There was a huge fire in 1985, and the track was closed for a while. It re-opened in 2000. This is all according to wikipedia. My Dad was at that hotel for one of the big Muhammad Ali fights back in the 70's, so I know it was around back then. Not sure exactly what year it was built though.

My wife and I spent our wedding night in one of the penthouse suites in 1997. Without actually getting on the roof, I can tell you the view of the track and the Chicago skyline is quite impressive! I live about 15 miles from her and had NO IDEA she was closed. Could be interesting?!?
