Sounds like something for the holy grail thread, once it's completed. A 54 mile long railway tunnel going under the Swiss Alps:

The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight"
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house,
"Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/

It might be more fun BEFORE it's completed, assuming you could get in and out during a period they weren't working (do they pause at night/on weekends?)

You'd get to see all the neat equipment, various stages of construction, and wouldn't be killed or spotted by a train.

I would suggest maybe biking it?

In places forgotten, tread where you will. -=- http://www.flickr.com/photos/avius/

Only 1.8 metres to the world record!

I'm looking forward to the breakthrough tomorrow.
